Williams Glory In Return To Plymouth Darting Action

Darren Williams was the fifth different winner in five stagings of the ADC Vault series at Legends Lounge as he came through a stacked field to claim the title.

Williams navigated group one with wins of 2-0 over week one champion Paul Palmer, Chris McLeod and Darren Smith to join a 2-1 success over Tom Graham.

Williams (79.11) netted his best leg of the round robin section with a 15 darter in that success whilst Palmer joined him in the quarter finals.

2-0 wins over Graham and Smith and a 2-1 success over McLeod saw him through to join Luke Johnson who blew away a 'group of death'.

A 15 darter opened a 2-0 win over Frankie Stout before 2-0 wins over Sean Burkitt, Paul Hoare and a 2-1 success over Lewis Dare saw Johnson through.

Hoare came through second with a 2-0 win over Dare and 2-1 successes over Burkitt and Stout gave him safe passage into the knockouts.

Week three finalist Steve Mills made it four from four in group three after opening up his campaign with 2-0 triumph over Del Bryce that contained a leg in 18.

Mills downed James Parkhouse 2-0 before edging Zack Rosen 2-1 to setup a top spot shootout with Lewis Bryne.

Byrne started with two wins of 2-0 over Parkhouse and Rosen before ending Bryce's chance of making the top two with a leg in 17 helping to a 2-1 triumph.

Mills sneaked past the week three winner 2-1 to avenge the defeat he suffered in that final with a leg in 18 deciding the match.

Jay McLeod and Karson Tuck made up the final eight with McLeod besting Sean Taylor 2-0 edging Stew Roberts and Tuck 2-1 to book top spot.

Tuck knocked out week four champion Taylor after coming through a tight affair with Roberts 2-1 and winning a last leg shootout over Taylor by the same score line.

Williams eased out Tuck 3-1 in the last eight before Byrne won a leg in 16 to put end Johnson's title tilt whilst legs in 15 and 18 gave Mills (78.47) a last four place.

Despite Palmer (85.63) outscoring McLeod (76.59) for large swathes of their quarter, it was McLeod that came through 3-2.

No leg went beyond six visits to the board as McLeod's 18 darter was countered by Palmer with one of his own before Palmer went 2-1 up with a 16 dart leg.

McLeod fired a 113 checkout to check in 15 before closing the match with a leg in 17 to leave Palmer down and out, stranded on 20 points left.

Williams booked his place in the final with a 3-1 win over Byrne before McLeod continued his progress with a 3-1 win of his own that saw a leg plundered in 17 darts against Mills.

But it was Williams that claimed the title and crucial ADC Vault Series ranking points with a 3-1 grand finale success.
