Wheatley Strikes It Rich
Tradesmans A faltering Louis Yates Plymouth & District Darts League title defence took another dent but Richard Wheatley produced some outstanding darts all night for the beleaguered champions.
In the 8-5 win for the Stonehouse outfit over Windmill that leaves them third and twenty-one off the top, Wheatley (30.33) took the least number of darts prize for the week with a 33 darter in his 1001 singles.
Wheatley seemed to be having a least number of darts contest with himself all night as he also contributed to a 36 dart leg when teaming with his partner Andy Nation (27.81) in Wheatley's previous outing.
Wheatley's first valid attempt at the least number darts prize in the match came in a trebles tie when the trio of Jayden Dodd, Wheatley and Nation (25.67) put away 1001 in just 39.
Wheatley's teammate Paul Nash was the only recipient of a '180' call in the match after throwing for his team whilst recent Devon cap Deb Trethowan added one of her own for the defeated team.
The top two in the league clashed and Richie Lynch's (29.44) 34 darter over the 1001 leg was one of eight points won by Kings Tamerton in an 8-5 success over leaders Victory.
Fellow darting royalty, Glyn Wells, was on the receiving end of Lynch rolling back the years despite Wells ending his night on ten tons overall.
Jordan Grimshaw was another ten ton hitter for the defeated team whilst the 180s were shared 2-1 in the victorious away team's favour.
Lynch added a maximum that in that aforementioned top quality leg whilst teammate Simon Washington joined Victory's Shaun Williams in adding a three treble visit.
That win still leaves Victory with a less comfortable lead as Kings Tamerton are now within eleven points of their rivals with an extra thirteen for which to play due to a game in hand.
Ten tons by Harry Harrison provided the catalyst for Grenville to claim an 11-2 home success in a home match against Cherry Tree.
Sean Taylor's maximum contributed to a 13-0 success for Legends Lounge against visitors to St Budeaux, Weston Mill Oak Villa.
A 180 by Dave Jarvis was the only moment of magic in a 9-4 success for Falstaff against King Billy who are still comfortably nine points ahead of their rivals for fourth spot.
Rob May's modest 74 checkout was the best finish of the week in a 10-3 win for Tradesmans B over Ker St whilst Mainstone found their form with an 11-2 success.
