Whatley Crew Fall Despite Mike's Heroics

Mike Whatley's produced a masterclass of scoring prowess in Cherry Tree A's Monday Premier League defeat to Bluebird B by a 7-4 score line.

Whatley's 3-1 individual triumph was littered with a 115 checkout and an 18 dart leg that was only bettered by the Compton side's Dale Halford who also helped himself to the only maximum of the evening.

Another ton plus checkout came from Whatley's teammate Matt Nicholson who claimed a 107 that had to settle for third best of the contest as Jamie Roberts nailed a 122 three dart combination.

The top two clashed and in spite of Paul Hendy's thirteen ton haul for the defeated team, Tradesmans extended their unassailable lead at the top to thirty-eight with a 7-4 win over Octagon A.

Paul Palmer supported Hendy well in an effort that turned out to be futile with a twelve ton personal tally whilst the best scorer in the victors' roster was shared.

John Mann and Cornwall teammate Jaden Whitting both added eleven tons; the former adding to his total with a 124 checkout.

That Mann effort bettered a 107 combination out shot from Alfie Ford in an individual phase which saw every single game littered with world class darting action.

Before that phase of play, Mann and teammate Lee Agar (29.32) put together two legs of 601 in just 20 and 21 darts to claim a remarkable pairs average.

First up in the singles, Andrew Nation hit the only 180 in the match in a 3-1 defeat to Paul Palmer who won out thanks in part to a leg in 17.

Mann (31.98) posted the best average in a 3-0 demolition job that contained legs in 17, 15 and 15 before Ford checked a leg in 17 during a 3-2 loss to long term sparing partner Fred Goldsmith.

Goldsmith found his way to victory with legs in 15 and 17 darts before Lee Hellings put the final double-yew onto the sheet for the defeated team with a 3-0 success that contain another leg in 17.

A fifth rubber in a row that saw a 17 dart leg was put away by Lee Agar as he won out 3-1 before Jaden Whitting checked legs in 18 and 13 in a 3-2 triumph that heard game shot called twice with Whitting on 100 left.

Thirteen tons from Alan Masters lit up Bluebird A's 6-5 win over Victory A, who themselves saw Scott Lawrey firing eleven tons in during the defeat.

Lawrey's total was accented not only by one of the three maximum in the match, but also by a fabulous 161 checkout that was the highest of all matches played.

Lawrey was joined by teammate Quinton Taylor in achieving a 180 whilst Jack McMinn threw his team's only three treble visit of the night.

Lawrey (25.05) also helped himself to the highest average of all twelve competitors on display with an accomplished 3-0 win.

Masters was equally effective in the finishing section of the match as an 18 dart leg was joined by a 117 checkout in his 3-0 win.

A 160 checkout that would normally be enough to take the highest checkout of the week was ploughed home by Antony Hayman in a 6-5 success for King Billy over Colebrook.

Hayman's teammates Andrew Cook and Reece Day also contributed moments of supreme brilliance with a maximum each.

Cook's 180 ticked his personal three figure tally over to the thirteen mark, which was by some distance the best of anybody involved.

Alan Rowe's twelve tons remained unbeaten by all involved in Indian Inn's 7-4 success over Cherry Tree B who themselves had George Beckett in his usual blistering form.

Beckett put eleven scores of a ton or more onto the scoreboard and defeated Danny Bull 3-2 with both players nailing an 18 dart leg in the close encounter.

Beckett's teammate Kayleigh Adams showed the class that saw her selected for Devon with the game's only maximum for the defeated side.

Eleven tons from Scott Cook couldn't arrest Victory B's slide to a 7-4 defeat at the hands of Bluebird C who had Lee Roberts finishing from 122 in a single visit.

Cook joined teammate Paul Goundry and Roberts' stablemate Nick Perring in hearing a score of 180 called after throwing.

Victory C had Paul Hoare in majestic form, but his ten tons were not enough to see his team over the line against Octagon B who had Chris Edgcumbe nail the only maximum of the matchup.
