Trademans Title Tilt Takes Off
Tradesmans A took a massive step towards retaining the Plymouth and District Friday Darts League title over with three double figure wins played either side of the Christmas break.
The first, an 11-2 triumph over now second placed Victory Inn, came thank to a burst of brilliance from Jayden Dodd who ploughed in eleven tons.
A 39 dart 1001 game from Jaden Whitting (25.67) in the singles was bettered by Mike O'Brien's (27.81) leg in just 36.
One of the two points claimed by the defeated Honicknowle team was a 39 dart singles win for Glyn Wells (25.67) who joined teammate Jordan Grimshaw in claiming a maximum in the contest.
The Stonehouse side followed this win up with a 10-3 win over their pub rivals, Tradesmans B, in a game that saw O'Brien and Dodd shine again.
O'Brien managed to put twelve tons to his name whilst Dodd's (28.60) 35 dart 1001 leg wasn't bettered in the contest.
And following the break for the festive period, took a commanding twenty-two point lead over Victory Inn with a 12-1 win over the same stablemates they played before Christmas.
A 76 checkout from Dan Perryman achieved the highest of this A versus B contest whilst O'Brien (25.67) was in fine fettle once again with his 1001 individual success finished in thirteen completed visits for a 39 darter.
A 180 from Glyn Wells in Victory Inn's 7-6 success over Indian Inn was the main highlight as Wells' team lost more ground despite heroics from Andy Downton in the final leg decider to take the points.
Elsewhere in the league, Octagon won in double figures in their visit to Queen Constitution; taking the away tie 10-3 whilst the joint biggest winners of the week were Kings Tamerton with a 12-1 success over Grenville.
Ant Pearn's 86 checkout in a 7-6 win for King Billy over Pennycross took the highest checkout of the week for 2023's first round of fixtures.
The other fixture played before the Christmas period saw Rob May bag himself a maximum in a 9-4 win for Tradesmans B over Lugger.
Lugger remain routed to the bottom of the standings by a distant fourteen points after returning from the break with an 11-2 defeat to Queens Arms.
