Town Team Downed Despite Ton Tally

Plymouth City Super League Division B was lit up Wayne Town's sixteen ton plusses, but that tally couldn't arrest Clifton's slide to a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Victoria.

Town's total was topped up by a 150 checkout that was the best across both divisions of the league; beating out four other top checkouts to the biggest of the match.

Town's other checkout of 83 settled for fifth best whilst Gary Eaton's 86 and a 98 finish by Town's teammate Ross Blake were third and fourth to a second placed 103 from Seth Thompson.

Mick Bingham was in good form for the triumphant away side as he nailed twelve tons and legs in 16 and 17 darts against Dan Jewell who netted the only maximum of the match.

A 7-4 win for St Levans over Hyde Park was dominated by the form of Tex Pearce who added a maximum to his fifteen three figures scores.

Despite ending on the wrong side of the narrow defeat, Ben Welsh matched Pearce's tally of fifteen ton plusses.

A finish of 88 from Welsh had to settle for second best as teammate Bob Woods fired a 116 three dart combination in a 3-1 defeat to Pearce.

Cornwall Gate continued their parade to the Division B title with a 7-4 win over Kings Arms A that saw Simon Stevenson put eleven tons onto the scoreboard.

Stevenson (27.83) added legs in 17 and 18 darts during his 3-0 win whilst Pete Down was the defeated Oreston side's top scorer with ten tons overall.

A 6-5 win for Cherry Tree B in a visit to Ker St was lit up by three maximums as Shaun Dring and Kev Doel both fired for the victors.

Ian Heggie was the Devonport side's man to hit three trebles in a row whilst Roger Bailey's 100 checkout bettered a 70 from teammate Heggie, and an 88 from Alex Truscott for the opposition.

Fawn B continued their much improved season with a 10-1 win over Duchy B that saw the main highlight come from the arm of Mark Sargeant in the form of an 86 checkout.

Kings Tamerton had Lee Hunter at his very best in an 8-3 win over Duchy A with an 18 darter proving to be crucial for Hunter in a 3-2 singles win.

Hunter also netted the only maximum on the match whilst the high checkout spoils went to Mark Langdon for the defeated side with a 96 combo.

In Division A, Antony Hayman's sixteen ton haul led King Billy to a bumper 9-2 success in King Billy's clash with Cherry Tree A.

Hayman was well supported in the endeavour by teammate Paul Palmer who added twelve tons to Hayman's tally whilst teammate Kev Lofthouse rounded his ton total to ten with his team's only maximum.

Despite ending on the wrong side of the heavy defeat, Steve Mills was in blistering form with thirteen ton plusses whilst teammate Nick Miller helped himself to two maximums in the game.

The scoring phase only told half the story as at the business end of legs, Lee Doncaster's 101 checkout was one of a number of highlights.

Lofthouse added a 15 darter in his 3-1 success over the rampant Mills whilst Hayman (32.67) put away his 3-0 triumph with legs of 13, 14 and 17.

Palmer was another 3-0 winner for the third placed Devonport side with his best leg coming in just 16 darts at 501.

The Bluebird derby was dominated by the firepower from Glenn Halford as he put up fifteen tons to help the A team overcome their B side by a 10-1 score line.

Halford added one of the eight 180s in the match as teammate Tony Teal bagged himself one and a brace of maximums was plundered by both Glenn Austin and James Stoodley.

In riposte, Jon Parsons and Dale Halford were the only players to hear '180' called after throwing whilst the latter checked the highest finish of the match overall.

That was a combination out shot of 84 whilst Tony Teal's 15 darter in a 3-1 singles win was the best leg of 501 thrown in the one sided matchup that also saw Jack McMinn add ten tons of his own.

Dave Johns and Simon Kelly's thirteen three figure scores pushed Kings Arms B towards a 7-4 success over Colebrook.

Johns' tally was ticked over to that mark by his two maximums, which was joined by five more overall as Roger Backway also provided a brace, allowing Backway to complete his ten ton haul.

Darren Smith's pair for the defeated side was joined by a solitary effort completed the septet of 180s put onto the scoreboard between two quality outfits.

As the score line suggests, it certainly wasn't one way traffic with both Dave Hollow and Nathan Langdon adding ten tons each for the defeated side.

Tony Gordon's 99 three dart combination outshot was the best checkout of the match whilst Kelly netted himself a 13 darter in his 3-0 individual triumph.

Octagon continued their title push with a 9-2 success over Saltram that was led in the scoring phase by John Mann's thirteen ton plusses.

Mann's teammates Quinton Taylor and Lee Hellings were eleven ton hitters whilst Neil White rounded his ton tally off to ten with one of the four maximums in the match.

Taylor's brace and one from Hellings were the other three treble visits whilst Taylor's 121 three dart kill narrowly bettered a 101 finish from Hellings to the division's best finish of the week.

The modus operandi that has made Octagon such great Super League champions is hitting hard early doors, and this was no more evident in this contest.

Mann, Taylor and Alfie Ford (26.34) put away 1001 in 38 darts in the first trebles before White, Hellings and Fred Goldsmith (27.81) put together a 36 darter over the same distance.

In the very next game, Mann and Taylor added a 601 doubles leg in 17 darts before White and Goldsmith completed the doubles phase of play with a leg in 21.

Taylor continued his form in the singles with a 12 darter in a 3-0 win before White was another 3-0 winner thanks in part to a leg in 16 over the 501 format.

Mann (31.31) put away legs in 11 and 16 darts in his remarkable 3-0 win before the game was rounded off by two successes in the final three rubbers for the division's bottom team.

Those dropped points allowed Legends Lounge to move to within two points of the leaders after their 11-0 success over Victory that contained a Scott Wapshott twelve ton haul.

Wapshott's teammate Dan Brazier was also in good nick with ten tons whilst Paul Gavican showed his undoubted class with three moments of magic.

Gavican added a 14 darter and a 101 checkout to his 180 in a 3-0 individual triumph; that effort being one of two three treble visits in the match as Ant Pearn plundered a second for his team.

Danny Bull's eleven tons for Indian Inn saw them to a 6-5 away win at Fawn A in a match that included four maximums shared equally between the two teams.

Bull joined teammate Pete Cornish in adding his name to the 180 column whilst Mark Hempsall and Mike Nancholas were the maximum hitters for the Greenbank side.
