Tons A Twenty For The Magic Mann
One hundred and twenty-five scores of a ton or more were thrown between Octagon and Indian Inn B's Plymouth City Super League Division A clash that finished 8-3 to the runaway leaders.
Without John Mann, that total would've been capped at one hundred and five as the champions' talisman added twenty ton plusses of his own making to the scoreboard in the epic encounter.
Mann's teammate Fred Goldsmith added fourteen to that mammoth three figure score tally whilst Paul Palmer and Neil White were also prominent.
Palmer ended his evening's work with eleven scores of a ton or more whilst White checked 112 in a single visit and put up his team's only maximum to tick his ton total over to the ten mark.
Ant Pearn, who gave Palmer a notable defeat in the individual phase, was the top scoring player for the home side whilst Paul Gavican and Mike Whatley were almost as profligate with ten tons each.
The first 180 of the match was plundered in game number one as Dan Brazier added a maximum but Mann, Goldsmith and Alfie Ford (27.81) put together a 36 dart 1001 leg to take a 1-0 lead.
By the time Mann and Goldsmith put together their 24 and 20 dart 601 legs in the first doubles match to take a 2-1 success, the match score line was 3-0.
Palmer and White then made sure there was a comfortable gap going into the singles as they checked in 23 and 24 darts over the same distance to take a 2-1 success and make it 4-1.
Whatley defeated Ford 3-0 with the help of a leg in 17 before White was a 3-1 winner over Brazier in a brilliant game that saw Brazier check in 16 whilst White heard 'game shot' after throwing 18 in one of his three won.
Lee Agar (28.36) bagged a 13 darter to go alongside a 17 dart leg to give him a 3-0 win before Pearn edged Palmer 3-2 despite Palmer adding a 15 dart leg.
Mann's legs in 18 and 14 proved crucial in a 3-2 win before Goldsmith did for Gavican by the same score line despite Gavican nailing the third and final 180 of a breath-taking evening of play.
An 8-3 win for Cornwall Gate was dominated by the power scoring of Simon Stevenson who fired eighteen scores of a ton or more in the success over Indian Inn A.
Stevenson's (33.40) tally was accented by a 121 checkout that came in a 3-0 win that saw Stevenson plunder a trio of 15 dart legs.
Andy Malinowski provided a decent backup for Stevenson with eleven three figure scores whilst Matt Vosper was the only recipient of a '180' call in the match to tick his ton haul over to the ten mark.
The only bright spark for the defeated team came from the arm of Danny Bull who added a 112 checkout to what turned out to be a disappointing night overall.
Bluebird A continue to stay as the leader's closest challengers for the title with a 10-1 success over Clifton keeping them within touching distance when you take into account two games in hand.
Glenn Halford starred with thirteen scores of a ton or more and added one of three 180s for his team to that excellent total.
James Stoodley's maximum was the cherry on top of his ten ton tally whilst Glenn Austin added a third three treble visit for the visitors.
Niall McGarvey made it a quartet one 180s in the match with his team's solitary effort of that ilk whilst teammate Kev Seal lit up the business end of legs with a 100 checkout.
That Seal effort bettered an 83 by Wayne Town whilst Austin was a 3-0 winner thanks in part to the best leg of the match coming in 17 darts.
A 7-4 win for Steampacket in a visit to Bluebird B saw George Beckett dominate proceedings with thirteen ton plusses.
A Beckett leg in 17 darts gave him a 3-1 individual triumph whilst two mid range checkouts were ploughed home in the game.
Beckett's teammate Kayleigh Adams put away 92 in a single visit whilst Jon Parsons showed his finishing prowess with a 74 kill.
Parsons' teammate Vince Scallan added the game's only 180 in his 3-1 individual success whilst Parsons (23.48) was consistent in all three legs of his 3-0 victory.
Roger Backway's ten ton plusses gave Kings Arms B the platform to claim a 6-5 win in their visit to Cherry Tree A.
Backway added a maximum to his night's work whilst the other three treble visit in the game went to Dave Lee during a 3-1 individual defeat that saw Lee take out a 16 dart leg.
Lee's teammate James Hughes saw the opposite fortune and score line as his 3-1 success also saw a leg put to bed after throwing 16 darts.
The only checkout to better an 86 by Steve Mayne was Steve Mills' 105 kill in his 3-0 win whilst the visitors from Oreston had Paul Carpenter to thank for the win as he ran out a 3-1 winner in the final singles.
Antony Hayman dominated proceedings for King Billy with ten tons in their Devonport derby win over neighbours Ker St by a 9-2 score line.
Hayman's brace of 16 darters gave him the platform to take a 3-1 individual success over Roger Bailey, who himself put the first maximum of the match onto the scoreboard in the very first game of the night.
Bailey's teammate and captain, Paul Tackle, produced a second 180 for the team and added a 99 combination out to this on his way to a 3-1 victory.
