Super League Back With A Bang

The opening night in the Plymouth City Super League Division A was lit up by Simon Stevenson's (29.47) impressive 3-0 win that saw legs tumble in 16, 17 and 18 darts during a 6-5 loss for Cornwall Gate at Indian A.

Stevenson also top scored across all fixtures with a brilliant total of eighteen tons, which included two of the seven maximums plundered between the two teams.

Teammates Shaun Dring and Dan Bunney both added to that septet whilst Danny Bull put up two of three 180s that his team managed, with the other going to Harry Bull.

The next best scoring player in the contest was Harry Bull who ended his night on thirteen ton plusses, and with a 3-2 win over the away side's twelve ton man Andy Malinowski.

Bull was supported well by Dave Matthews who reached eleven tons overall and he also showed his class at the business end of legs.

Matthews checked 82 in a single visit for the best kill of the match and also saw that turned out to be a crucial 14 darter go his way in a 3-2 singles success.

Danny Bull was also in good form during the individual phase of play with a 3-1 win that contained a leg put away in just 12 darts.

It was very much a case of start from where they left off from champions Octagon who dropped just one leg in an 11-0 demolition job at Cherry Tree B.

Fred Goldsmith (27.83) bagged his 3-0 individual triumph with best legs of 15 and 18 darts whilst Alfie Ford (27.83) repeated the feat with legs in exactly the same number of darts.

Top scoring player for the rampant visitors was Lee Hellings with fourteen tons including his team's only maximum of the contest.

Hellings was supported throughout by Goldsmith who added thirteen scores of a ton or more to his tally whilst ton plus out shots were added by three of the victorious cohort.

Hellings' 114 combination out shot was bettered twice as John Mann's 118 kill had to settle for second best on the night to Neil White's 126, which was the best of the week across all fixtures.

Despite starting the season in the worst possible way, Wayne Davis showed glimmers of what his team will be capable of with a 90 checkout and a maximum amongst his highlight reel.

Dave Johns showed his class with fourteen scores of a ton or more for Kings Arms B but still found himself on the wrong end of a 9-2 loss against Ford Inn.

Teammate Simon Kelly also shone throughout with eleven three figure visits and showed his class at the business end with a brace of legs in 18 darts in a 3-1 singles win, which sat nicely alongside a 72 out shot.

The fire power for the victors came from the arm of Mark Shears who nailed eleven ton plusses and a 91 checkout.

Ant Pearn showed glimpses of his very best with the game's only 180 and a 114 checkout that was one short of a 115 three darter from teammate Scott Wapshott.

Glenn Austin's twelve ton haul led Bluebird A to a fine 6-5 win over Division B champions Cherry Tree D who had three players breaching the ten ton mark.

Nick Bryant was the leader with twelve ton plusses of his own whilst Keith Carter and Quinton Taylor both bagged eleven three figure visits.

Whilst the match score drifted from the top tier newcomers, the 180s were largely one sided as Taylor and Bryant joined teammates Dave Lee and Phil Hoyle in achieving that feat.

Austin was the only maxi hitter for the home team whilst at the business end of legs there was two mid range checkouts.

Bryant's 92 had to settle for second best as Austin's stablemate Jacob Bentham took out 95 in a single visit to take the best finish honours, leaving Lee Roberts 77 in third.

Marc Webber was a twelve ton hitter for Steampacket but still saw the away side succumb to a 9-2 loss at the hands of Cherry Tree C.

The main aggressor for the victors was Steve Towl who nailed ten tons of his own whilst the trio of Nathan Langdon, Dan Jewell and Frankie Stout all fired 180s for the victors.

At the business end of legs, Langdon featured amongst the highlights with a 17 darter over the 601 distance when pairing with Darren Smith.

The best checkout of the entire contest went the way of Dave Hollow whose three darts cleared up 111 at the first time of asking during a 3-1 success.

Kevin Seal's eleven ton tally gave Tradesmans the platform from which to build a 7-4 success over Kings Tamerton.

Seal's ton total was topped up by two of the four maximums his team managed as teammates Simon Washington and Lewis Byrne both added a solitary effort.

Byrne also showed his class with a 77 combination out shot that was narrowly pushed into second best for the matchup with Paul Freeman adding a 92 for the defeated team.

The last three individual games really sparked the contest as Seal showed there is more to his game than heavy scoring with legs in 14 and 18 darters during a 3-0 triumph.

Washington added a brace of 18 dart legs to his 3-0 win whilst Byrne rounded off the game with another 3-0 triumph that came with the help of a leg in 18.

St Levans started life in the top tier with a solid 7-4 win over Victory A despite a brilliant eleven tons from Chris Beale for the defeated team.

Phil Hoskin put up the only 180 for the defeated team to join a three dart combination out shot of 106 he found in a 3-2 individual loss.

Paul Palmer shone brightest for King Billy A who started their campaign off with a 6-5 win over promoted side Legends Lounge.

Two maximums came in a 3-0 singles win for Palmer that also featured a leg in just 11 darts whilst his 100 combination out was only bettered by Sean Burkitt's 113 for the defeated side.
