Stevenson-tastic

Simon Stevenson showed once again why he's revered as the best player in Plymouth after guiding Cornwall Gate over the line to a Plymouth City Super League Division A 6-5 win at Kings Arms B.

Stevenson plundered nineteen scores of a ton or more and this mammoth haul included one of the three maximums his team added in the matchup.

The other 180s came from the same arm as Andy Malinowski netted himself a brace of three treble visits on his way to twelve ton plusses.

The lead changed hands five times so it was fitting that Stevenson would win the game in a final leg shootout with a 3-2 success over Roger Backway.

Backway performed well all throughout the overall contest with eleven scores of a ton or more, which was only fit for third best between his cohort.

Dave Johns added a haul of twelve tons whilst Simon Kelly was ultimately the best in the scoring phase for the defeated home party with thirteen three figure visits.

Kelly also showed his class at the business end of legs with a 68 checkout that was only usurped by the highest checkout of the week from Shaun Dring who put away 130 in three.

The main difference between the two teams in the Indian Inn derby was Mark Shears' thirteen scores of a ton or more for the B team who secured a 7-4 success against their A team rivals.

Shears (30.67) put on two maximums to his ton tally with one of those coming in a 3-0 individual triumph that saw legs in 17, 17 and 15 darts.

Shears was supported well throughout by Scott Cook who added a trio of maxis to his ten ton tally whilst Scott Wapshott also completed a ten ton haul of his own.

As the score line suggests, it wasn't all one way traffic and Mark Hatherley proved that by putting ten tons onto the score sheet of his own for the defeated team.

King Billy's 7-4 win at Cherry Tree A was dominated by a remarkable individual success from Antony Hayman (29.47) who chalked up 13 and 18 dart legs during his 3-0 triumph.

Hayman further emphasised his finishing prowess with a 74 checkout and dominated the scoring phase with eleven tons.

Teammate Lee Doncaster added a 180 to his own eleven ton haul, whilst Alec Turner was prominent when also reaching ten tons.

Doncaster's three treble visit was one of five between the two teams as his partners in crime Paddy Archibald and Paul Goundry both added to his solitary effort.

A brace from Steve Mills from the defeated team ticked that quintet total over to it's end mark whilst the difference between Dave Lee and Turner in the individuals was an 18 darter in a 3-2 win.

Lee Hellings performed admirably for runaway leaders Octagon in a 10-1 win against Clifton that saw Hellings added a brilliant individual win to his fourteen ton plusses.

Hellings (26.71) set about opponent Kev Seal with legs in 18, 17 and 15 darts in a 3-2 triumph that saw the defeated party nail a leg in 16 darts and a 180.

Seal ticked his ton tally over to the eleven mark and claimed a 72 checkout that was the best finish of the six his team put onto the scoreboard in the affair.

Hellings was supported well by John Mann who nailed fourteen three figure visits whilst Neil White was also in a good nick with ten tons of his own.

White showed his finishing prowess with an 80 kill whilst Mann's leg in 17 darts during his 3-0 individual success followed two well crafted legs he was involved in during the team phase.

Mann teamed with Alfie Ford and Fred Goldsmith (35.75) in the opening 1001 trebles and heard 'game shot' called after just 28 darts entered the board.

Two of the Stonehouse outfit's 180s in that contest as Mann's teammates Ford and Goldsmith put maximums onto the scoreboard.

Mann and Goldsmith then gelled together in a 601 leg that was ended after 20 darts were thrown before Ford made it a second maxi for him in the very next game.

A classic encounter between two top teams ended in a 6-5 win for Bluebird A against Cherry Tree C; a win that saw James Stoodley dominate the scoring phase with thirteen ton plusses.

The man Stoodley bettered in the individual phase, Steve Towl, was the main aggressor in the scoring stakes for the away side with ten tons of his own.

Towl's stablemate Frankie Stout was the only player of the twelve strong on display to here '180' called after throwing.

However, the clutch finishing is where the game was decided with Dan Jewell's 74 for the Pennycross based side blown out of the water by three ton plus efforts from the home team.

A 130 from Glenn Austin, which tied for the biggest checkout of the week, was the best of that trio but Dale Halford provided the most crucial of efforts in the final singles rubber, which came with the scores tied at 5-5.

Without Halford's kills of 102 and 106, the 3-2 success could've easily been reversed, which would've given the away side the bragging rights of a closely fought battle.

A 6-5 win for Bluebird B at Ker St saw four moments of magic; the best of which came from the arm of Dan Hurley who nailed a 17 darter in a 3-1 singles win for the victors.

Hurley's teammate Simon Washington bagged himself a 100 checkout in a 3-0 individual triumph whilst kills of 72 and 78 were provided by Paul Tackle and Roger Bailey for the defeated team.
