Steve's Team Never Threw The Towl In
Steve Towl's 126 three dart combination out shot gave him the highest checkout of the week in the Plymouth City Super League Division A.
That mammoth effort also helped his Cherry Tree C team to an entertaining 6-5 win over Cornwall Gate who had Simon Stevenson in vintage form.
Sixteen tons rained down from the arm of the six time Champion of Champions, including one of the three maximums overall in the contest.
The other three treble visits went to the victorious away side with Towl's teammates Frankie Stout and Dave Hollow both adding 180s.
A number of mid range finishes and short games of 501 lit up the business end of legs with Matt Vosper starting that in the final rubber of the team game section.
Vosper plundered an 88 combination in a 2-0 win before stepping up to produce some magical stuff during his 3-1 individual success over Lee Wickett.
A leg in 14 sat nicely alongside an 86 checkout in that win whilst Wickett's only contribution to the scoreboard in that game came with an 80 kill.
Stevenson then produced legs in 18, 15 and 14 darts during his 3-1 win over Frankie Stout who himself finished in 18.
Stevenson's biggest finish in that contest of 91 was also the best amongst his cohort whilst Towl checked an 18 darter to go alongside his aforementioned checkout in a 3-0 singles success.
Stevenson's teammate Andy Malinowski rounded off the affair with a 3-1 singles win that ended with him reaching ten tons for his night's work.
A player from each side of Kings Arms B's 7-4 win over Indian A finished their evening's work with fifteen scores of a ton or more.
Simon Kelly and Harry Bull were the players to achieve that feat and the pair met in a 3-1 win for the former that produced seventeen of that thirty ton combination.
Bull's only leg was settled with a 108 checkout that bettered an 82 from Kelly's teammate Paul Carpenter for the best finish of the game whilst Kelly added an 18 darter in the win.
The difference between the two teams was the scoring power of Kelly's teammate as Dave Johns adding twelve tons to Kelly's total.
Roger Backway also had his scoring boots on with a ten ton haul that included two of the four maximums put up by the two teams.
Danny Bull added a brace of three treble visits for the defeated team who contributed to what was a decent display.
Champions elect Octagon met one of the better teams in the league but still walked away with an 8-3 win during their visit to King Billy.
Lee Hellings was the undoubted star of the show with fifteen scores of a ton or more, including his team's only maximum, and he was supported well by three of his teammates.
Fred Goldsmith's tally of twelve tons was the next best and that came with the helper of a 106 three dart combination out shot.
John Mann and Andy Bates were almost as influential with eleven three figure scores to their names whilst the scoring wasn't as one sided as the match result.
The top scoring honours for the defeated team were shared between Lee Doncaster and Alec Turner who shared twenty tons equally.
Turner's total was ticked over to the ten mark by a 104 combination out shot that was the best of all eleven checkouts his team managed.
Antony Hayman and Paul Goundry teamed to notch a 21 dart leg over the 601 distance in a 2-1 defeat to Bates and Paul Palmer who added a leg in 21 of their own.
Goldsmith started the individual phase in excellent fashion with a 3-0 win that contained legs in 15 and 17 darts.
Hellings was a 3-1 winner with one leg coming in 17 before Hayman and Goundry were the only two singles winners for the defeated team in the final two games.
Hayman put on a leg in 14 darts during his 3-0 win before Goundry nestled a leg in 16 to end his night with a 3-1 success of his own.
Nick Miller's eleven ton tally contributed to a 7-4 win for Cherry Tree A over Steampacket for whom both George Beckett and Luke Johnson both added ten tons each.
Johnson's total was ticked over to the double figure mark by the only maximum of the game whilst at the business end of legs three competitors shone.
Miller's teammate Rick Trinder plundered 76 in a single visit; an effort that was only bettered by a 105 from Marc Webber for the victors.
A 3-0 win for Steve Mills in the individual phase saw him put up a leg in just 18 darts, which was the best leg of 501 in the match.
Roger Bailey lit up proceedings with eleven scores of a ton or more but still found himself on the wrong end of an 8-3 loss as Ker St were downed by Bluebird A.
Dale and Glenn Halford provided the main highlights for the visitors with a 90 checkout and a maximum respectively.
Wayne Town's ten ton haul for Clifton couldn't arrest their slide to a 7-4 defeat at Bluebird B who claimed their very first win of the campaign in that success.
Town's tally was propped up by a 107 kill that was the only effort to better a Simon Washington 100 kill for the victorious home side.
