Simon Making It Look Simple

A magical performance from Simon Stevenson in the Plymouth City Super League lit the torch underneath Cornwall Gate to help them return to Division A winning ways with a 7-4 success at Steampacket.

Eighteen tons rained down from the arm of Stevenson in a spell that included a maximum and a 101 checkout that was the best finish of the night.

Stevenson (28.90) also blew away his singles opponent with legs in 17, 17 and 18 giving him a 3-0 individual triumph.

Luke Johnson showed his class for the defeated side with ten tons included his team's only maximum and a 100 checkout whilst Johnson and teammate Webber both brightened up the individual phase.

Webber added a leg in 16 during his 3-2 defeat to Shaun Dring whilst Johnson repeated that feat in a 3-0 victory of his own.

Bluebird A continued their decent start to the new campaign with an 8-3 success over Kings Arms B that was dominated by the power scoring of Glenn Halford who heard scores of a ton or more called fourteen times.

Halford was well supported by teammate Alan Masters who added a 180 to his eleven ton tally whilst the highest checkout of the night went to James Stoodley.

That 128 combination was also the best checkout of the week across the Division A fixtures and bettered a 105 by Paul Carpenter for the defeated side.

The business end of legs was also dominated by Masters who came through a 3-2 win with a 14 dart leg proving to be crucial.

Carpenter's teammate and reigning individual champion, Simon Kelly, put up the most resistance to the opposition with ten tons overall.

Paul Tackle's thirteen scores of a ton or more couldn't arrest Ker St's slide to an 8-3 defeat at the hands of Cherry Tree A.

Tackle's tally was topped up by his team's only 180, which was the perfect riposte to a maximum by Steve Mills of the Pennycross outfit.

Mills stablemate James Hughes led his team to victory with twelve scores of a ton or more whilst a smattering of excellent finishing came in the individual phase.

Tackle was a 3-1 winner over Mills thanks in part to a 91 checkout that narrowly bettered an 81 by Mills' teammate Dave Lee during his 3-0 success.

Lee also added a 15 dart leg in that contest whilst Hughes and Nick Miller were both 3-1 winners with their best coming 16 and 18 darts respectively.

Bluebird B were blown away by the irresistable force that is the Octagon 9-2 in spite of some excellent play by Dan Hurley who top scored in the contest with twelve tons.

Hurley's teammate Jon Parsons added his team's only maximum whilst Lee Hellings was the highest scoring player for the runaway leaders with a maximum his best.

That three treble visit helped tick his ton tally over to the twelve mark whilst Hellings was well supported by both Alfie Ford and John Mann who reached ten tons each.

After going 1-0 down in the very first leg of the contest, the doubles phase was dominated by the reigning champions as Mann and Fred Goldsmith added a 24 dart 601 leg.

Hellings and Ford then teamed to net 17 and 24 darters over the same format with the latter putting away the second leg in a 2-1 win with a 108 out shot.

The best performance was saved until the last pairs rubber as Paul Palmer and Neil White (27.32) added 21 and 23 dart legs to put the Stonehouse side 4-1 up going into the singles.

Palmer was a 3-0 winner with the help of a leg in 18 before Hellings (25.05) produced a beautifully crafted 3-0 success.

Mann (25.91) snuck the highest average and least number of darts over the 501 distance honours with legs in 17 and 18 helping his 3-0 triumph.

Indian Inn B got their stop start season back on track with a comfortable 9-2 win over a talented Cherry Tree C side; a game that was dominated by the scoring of Scott Wapshott and Mark Shears.

Both players bagged eleven tons to the scoreboard whilst teammate Scott Cook and Ant Pearn were both almost as influential with ten scores of a ton or more each.

Shears and Cook added to Paul Gavican's maximum to make it three to one in the 180 stakes as Dave Hollow added a fourth of the match and the defeated team's only three treble visit to the board.

Wapshott heard 'game shot' called at the first time of asking from 115 whilst Frankie Stout's 75 in his 3-0 individual success had to settle for third best of the overall matchup.

Cook's 100 finish was sandwiched in the middle of those aforementioned efforts whilst Cook's dominant 3-1 individual success came with the help of legs in 15 and 18 darts.
