Sargeant's Major Checkouts

The Plymouth City Super League's former bottom side earned a first success of the campaign as the Fawn B defeated Duchy Of Cornwall 7-4.



Mark Sargeant's individual game saw checkouts of 119 and 158; the latter taking the high checkout prize for the week across all fixtures to help his team leapfrog their opponents and another in the standings.


The title race in Plymouth's premier Friday night darts league is really starting to hot up after the top teams both won 10-1 to leave the pair tied on 103 points going into their clash upcoming clash.



Lee Hellings top scored with fifteen tons for second placed Octagon in their success at Steampacket; the marksman adding an impressive 110 three dart combination out shot to that mammoth total.


Hellings' teammate, John Mann, added fourteen tons for the evening, including his team's only maximum, whilst the friendly one-upmanship between the pair also spilled into the singles phase.



Mann's 16 darter in his 3-1 win was bettered by a leg from Hellings in 15 darts with Hellings adding a 17 darter against the talented George Beckett.


Despite the defeat, Beckett showed his undoubted class with a 180 on his way to thirteen three figure scores whilst teammate Neal Hotchkiss usurped Hellings' earlier checkout with a 115 kill.



King Billy remain top of the table due to their better record in team games after their 10-1 win over Half Moon which saw Lee Doncaster bag himself eleven three figure scores.


Antony Hayman joined Paul Palmer in hitting a maximum on his way to ten ton plusses for the evening as a 109 checkout from Palmer was only beaten by a 125 from teammate Mark Yeoman.



Hayman won his singles 3-0 thanks in part to a 15 dart leg whilst the only noteworthy contribution from the defeated team was a maximum from Kevin Marshall.


The ever impressive Glenn Halford shone once again for the Bluebird A in their 9-2 success over Hyde Park with a brace of maximums rounding off a twelve ton Halford haul.



Glenn Austin showed almost equal brilliance with eleven tons, including a fine 116 checkout that took the high checkout honours for the contest.


James Stoodley put the only other 180 on the scoreboard for the Compton team whilst Austin's 18 darter in a 3-0 singles success was bested by Halford's leg in 15 during his 3-1 triumph.



There was seven maximums in the 9-2 success for Victory A over Raffles with Scott Cook adding three of them all by himself.


The other maximums for the victorious Honicknowle team came from Tom James and a brace for Danny Allen whilst Paul Gavican reached ten tons for his evening's work.



Despite ending on the wrong side of a heavy defeat, James Ewing (30.67) produced a phenomenal display in his 3-0 individual success.


A 15 dart opening leg was finished in a single visit from 131 with the man affectionately known as 'Dallas' adding a brace of 17 dart legs for a truly remarkable triumph.



Alec Turner produced the Mutley team's only other moment of magic with his team's only maximum of the match.


Warren Gordon's ten tons for Saltram led his team to a 7-4 success over Cherry Tree who had Dave Lee checking out in three from 111.



A brilliant 6-5 battle between Kings Arms B and Ker St went right to a final leg shootout between Dave Johns and Ralph Lancaster.


Johns added the final instalments of his ten ton personal haul to best the wily veteran, Lancaster, who checked 110 to take one of the two legs he managed.



Other sparks in the contest came from Johns' teammates Rob Oak and Roger Backway who both nailed 180s to the board whilst Ker St's Paul Tackle added a marvellous 155 checkout for the game's highest effort.


Clifton left the St Levans with a narrow 6-5 success thanks in part to moments of magic from a trio of their players.



Both Wayne Town and Kev Seal added maximums whilst Ross Blake checked the highest finish of the contest with a 94 kill.


Despite ending on the wrong side of a defeat, Tex Pearce was his consistent self as he added a 15 darter to his 3-0 singles win.



The Plymstock derby between Victoria and Kings Arms A was another decided by a single leg as Mike Sant's heroics got the Kings over the line with a 3-2 final tie success in the 6-5 win.


Sant added a maximum whilst teammate Peter Down added a 107 finish that beat efforts of 72 and 75 from Roger Ford and Mick Bingham respectively.
