Relentless Octagon Continue Title Parade

The Plymouth City Super League champions, Octagon, continued their title winning lap of honour with another 11-0 win; this week's victims the Cherry Tree.

Lee Hellings was the standout performer in terms of tons, putting thirteen on the board whilst John Mann ticked his total over to eleven with a brace of 180s.

That pair was two of the six thrown on the night as teammates Neil White and Alfie Ford made it four maximums for the Stonehouse side with a single effort each.

Steve Mills and stablemate John Greatrex also added 180s in the match, but neither could prevent the dominant away side from securing twenty-three legs in a row.

There was four winning averages recorded that exceeded the twenty-six per dart mark; the whole Octagon team contributing to that remarkable stat in the doubles phase.

Mann and Dave Matthews (27.05) a 1001 leg in 37 darts before Hellings and Ford (28.60) produced the best game over that distance with a 35 dart pairs game.

Fred Goldsmith then teamed with White (26.34) to record a 38 dart leg before John Mann (27.83) checked his individual game 3-0 with the help of a 13 darter.

That leg narrowly bettered a leg in 15 from Goldsmith who also checked a modest 78 to take the game's highest checkout honours.

The undoubted class of Glenn Halford led Bluebird A to a 7-4 win over Ker St as the Compton team's talisman threw twelve tons that included the game's only maximum.

Halford's regular Friday night sparing partner, James Stoodley, netted himself the best finish of the night with a 106 checkout whilst teammate Tony Teal checked an 86 in a single visit for the best of the rest.

A 10-1 win for Fawn A at home to Hyde Park was set alight by a Simon Stevenson twelve ton haul whilst Dave Roberts paired with Mark Hempsall (28.60) to rack up a 35 darter in the 1001 doubles.

Tex Pearce was by some distance the best performer in St Levans 6-5 win over Victoria as he threw two maximums to increase his ton tally to twelve.

In amongst that duodectet was a 120 checkout that dropped Gary Eaton's fine 118 three dart combination into the runner up spot for the highest finish of the contest.

Pearce bagged himself a 3-1 win with the help of a 15 dart leg whilst teammate John Sturdy and Aaron Wright for the visitors both added their name to Pearce's in the 180 column of the sheet.

A 10-1 win for Colebrook at Duchy B was dominated by two players as both Steve Hiscox and teammate Dave Hollow put on quite a display for the victors.

Hiscox put twelve tons onto the scoreboard whilst Hollow added an eleven ton personal haul that included the game's only maximum.

In a 3-0 individual success, Hollow added a brace of 17 darters and also finished 95 in a single visit to record the best checkout of the matchup.

An Indian summer of form from Roger Backway continued as he nailed eleven tons during Kings Arms B's 9-2 win over Victory C.

Backway's efforts were well supported by Dave Johns who added ten tons whilst Paul Carpenter showed flashes of genius with a 100 checkout and a maximum.

On what was a disappointing night for the visitors, James Smith did show consistency throughout with ten tons and won his individual game 3-1 with the help of an 18 darter.

The remarkable form of Dale Halford continued in Bluebird B's 8-3 home success over Saltram as he put eleven tons and the only maximum onto the scoreboard.

One moment of respite from a difficult evening for the visitors was Simon Kelly's 70 checkout that gave him the high checkout points for the match.

Antony Hayman added two 180s to his ten ton total in a 7-4 win for King Billy in their visit to Raffles that saw two other maximums from the Devonport side.

Hayman's teammates Paul Palmer and Paddy Archibald joined him in achieving that particular feat with a solitary effort each.

Hayman (32.67) dominated the individual phase of play with a 3-0 win that contained legs in 17, 15 and 14 darts whilst Lee Doncaster claimed the highest checkout of both the match and week overall with a 122 finish.

Three ton plus checkouts littered a topsy-turvy battle between local rivals Clifton and Fawn B in which the former came out on top 6-5 thanks to the final deciding game.

A 105 from Matt Anderson wasn't enough to get him over the line as he fell to a 3-2 defeat in the individual phase whilst the other two of the aforementioned checkouts came in the same singles game.

Wayne Town fired a 100 to defeat Alan Brady 3-1 who bagged his only leg with a 107 three dart combination out shot.

That Town win left the destination of the match result on a knife-edge at 5-5 before Kevin Seal gave the home side the lead for the first time in the game with a 3-0 win in the final tie of the night.

Two moments of magic couldn't prevent Duchy A from succumbing to a 10-1 defeat at the hands of Victory B with Tony Pike's 116 checkout joined by a maximum from Jack Heath.
