Plain Sailing For Lugger In KO Cup
The top team in the Plymouth Open League, Cherry Tree B, were unceremoniously dumped out of the KO Cup by their Division A rivals Lugger by a 16-6 scoreline overall.
Melvin Wilbraham contributed to a heavy 9-2 win for the Devonport team with a 16 dart leg in his 2-0 singles win in the first leg.
Tony Moody did fire a maximum for the Pennycross team with teammate Nick Miller and Lugger's Adam Truscott joining Moody in the feat during a 7-4 Lugger win in the second leg.
King Billy A produced a stellar performance in their 9-2 first leg with two maximums and no fewer than three ton plus finishes during the contest.
Lee Doncaster hit ten tons, including his team's first maximum of the match and fired a 17 dart leg in his 2-0 singles success.
Antony Hayman joined teammate Doncaster in achieving a 180 and produced the shortest leg of the match with a fine 12 darter.
Hayman's 106 checkout was only usurped by a 114 from James Ewing whilst Kieran Burns added both 99 and 100 checkouts to his evening's work.
The second leg was much of the same one way traffic with King Billy A running out 10-1 winners over their Devonport neighbours to progress by a 19-3 score.
Jordan Angear's maximum was the main highlight of a win for Fortescue over Prince Maurice; as the Mutley team progress 15-7 thanks to wins of 9-2 and 6-5.
An excellent display of finishing from John Nixon helped Division C's St Johnstone A end the hopes of Division B's Cherry Tree A; blitzing them 19-3 overall.
Nixon checked 146 in the 10-1 first leg win, which was the only effort that bettered a Bob Heale 88 combination finish.
Nixon was at it again with a fine 92 kill that was beaten by teammate Bill Daley's 107 in a 9-2 away win to complete the rout.
Railway put their patchy Division B form behind them to dispatch Division C's bottom team Falstaff B by scores of 8-3 and 10-1 for an 18-4 two legged win.
Mainstone dominated their tie with Queens Dock from start to finish with two 9-2 wins giving them an overall 18-4 win for safe passage to the next round.
Two 9-2 wins for Ker St A allowed them safe passage through their tie against lower league opposition, Jolly Miller.
Robbie Bisgrove's 106 checkout in the second leg of Ker St C's 15-7 win over Division A rivals Shakespeare was the highlight of two closer affairs than the scoreline suggests.
Division A's Falstaff A proved too good for their Division B opponents King Billy B won the first leg 9-2 and had Alan Jewell checking a 106 in a 7-4 second leg win.
That effort was the only outshot bigger than an 88 from King Billy's Bradley Williams who did nothing to disgrace himself over the two legged affair.
Neil White anchored his Victory team to two 7-4 wins over Weston Mill with White joining teammate Quinton Taylor in hitting a 180 during the first leg.
White also matched a 72 checkout produced by Weston Mill's Dan Brazier during the same match before White managed ten tons in the second leg.
White's 2-0 singles win during the second leg came with the help of 16 and 17 dart legs that yielded a 32.49 single dart average.
Despite ending on the wrong side of a narrow defeat, Brazier was also prominent with eleven ton plusses and an 18 dart leg in a 2-1 singles win for the unsuccessful team.
The St Johnstone derby match between the C and B teams saw the C team take wins of 10-1 and 8-3 to progress.
However, this was not before Brian Lumsdon and Tom Jeavons added finishes of 102 and 104 respectively during the tie for the defeated team.
