Octagon Powers Mann Of History

John Mann showed some of his very best darting action for the Octagon in a Plymouth City Super League Division A success over Cherry Tree C by an 8-3 score line.

Mann was the recipient of no fewer than three '180' calls on his way to fifteen tons and also gave an exhibition of world class finishing during his 3-0 singles win.

Mann (30.67) secured legs in 16 and 12 darts with the latter put away thanks to a checkout 160 that was the best of the matchup and of the week across all fixtures.

Mann's plunder of 180s was added to by teammate Lee Hellings who put up two maximums whilst Paul Palmer added a further effort to make it six team three treble visits.

Hellings and Palmer ended the night playing a supporting role to Mann with twelve tons each for their night's work whilst Alfie Ford was an eleven ton hitter for the home side.

Palmer and Hellings were the other two winners with Mann for the Stonehouse outfit in the individual phase as both added 16 dart legs to their respective 3-1 and 3-0 triumphs.

Nathan Langdon produced the best stuff for the visitors with a 116 checkout and two maximums on his way to ten tons of his own.

That aforementioned checkout and an 18 dart leg enabled Langdon (25.05) to secure a 3-1 singles win over Ford whilst teammate Darren Smith also impressed.

Smith ended his innings on ten tons for the night and walked away with a 3-2 triumph over Neil White as spoils of his evening.

The team phase of play was dominated by the reigning champions as Mann teamed with Goldsmith (27.32) to check 601 legs in 24 and 20 darts.

Twelve tons each from Simon Stevenson and Andy Malinowski wasn't enough to arrest Cornwall Gate's slide to a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Cherry Tree A.

Shaun Dring was also in good nice for the defeated team with an eleven ton haul that included a 127 checkout that was one of five big finishes.

Dring was bang at it in the individuals with a 3-0 win that saw him check two legs in 18 darts for his team's best performance of that phase.

Quinton Taylor was the hero of the hour for the away side as his 3-0 win in the final singles rubber gave the visitors the victory with the help of the best leg of the night; a 16 darter.

Taylor ended his night on ten tons; a haul that included a 100 kill that was one of four major finishes that helped decide the outcome of the match.

Rick Trinder added a crucial 84 combination that won him a 3-2 singles game whilst Taylor's 90 out and a 113 from teammate Nick Miller both helped the Pennycross side win doubles games.

King Billy roundly defeated Bluebird A 8-3 with Glenn Halford's twelve ton haul not able to cease his team's slide to a second loss of the season.

Paul Goundry led the victor's charge to success with a ten ton plus haul that included one of the four maximums in the contest.

Teammates Alec Turner and Antony Hayman both added a three treble visit whilst the only 180 for the defeated team came from the arm of James Stoodley.

Stoodley's stablemate Dale Halford showed his finishing prowess with a 98 checkout to go alongside a leg in 15 darts during his 3-1 defeat to Hayman.

Halford's near ton plus out shot was only bettered on the night by Lee Doncaster who added a 110 in a 3-2 triumph whilst Goundry was a 3-0 winner thanks in part to a leg in 15 of his own.

Scott Cook top scored with eleven tons and also fired the only 180 for Indian Inn B who ended their trip to Ker St with a 9-2 success.

Cook was supported well by Scott Wapshott and Dan Brazier who found ten tons each for the visitors whilst Ant Pearn's 138 checkout was the only effort to better a 100 kill by Paul Tackle.

Mark Shears was also prominent at the business end of legs as his 3-0 singles win was accented by a leg in 18 darts.

Simon Kelly dominated the scoring phase of play for Kings Arms B with ten ton plusses during a 7-4 home win over Bluebird B.

Dave Johns was also in good nick with his team's only maximum and an 88 checkout that emphasised his class in the finish stage of legs.

A 17 darter by Kelly in a 3-0 win was only bettered by a leg in 16 from his sparing partner Johns during another 3-0 success that went the way of the home side.
