OB, One And Only

Former World Championship Semi Finalist Maria O'Brien's eighteen ton plusses in Victory D's 10-1 win at Duchy of Cornwall wasn't bettered by any competitor across all fixtures in the Steve Chapman 501 League.

O'Brien was taken the distance by opponent Rob Wills who eventually succumbed 3-2 to the relentless scoring power of 'OB'; who checked two of the three she won in 17 and 14 darts.

Paul Gavican led the Victory C's charge back into title contention with fifteen three figure scores; a total that was topped off by two of the four maximums on the night.

This mammoth amount gave the championship chasers the platform to take a 9-2 win against a talented Kings Arms side.

Three giant finishes were ploughed in to do the damage for the Honicknowle side with a Jason Pinkerton 116 bettered twice in the contest.

A Mark Gilbery 142 was only second best as Phil Hoyle checked 158 in a single visit for the highest of both the contest and the week's play across all fixtures.

Gilbery's effort was one of eleven tons for him personally whilst Billy Evans added a maximum to his ten ton total.

Evans and Gavican (35.35) also paired for a doubles game that was put away in just 17 darts, which is world class across the 601 distance.

On a night where the Oreston visitors were quietened by their hosts, the only moments that stood out on a surprisingly disappointing evening for the capable squad came in defeats.

Dave Algar's 180 came in a 3-0 singles defeat whilst both players threw a 17 darter in Dave Johns 3-1 loss to Mark Shears.

The league title race looked dead and buried a few weeks ago, but after two defeats in the last three games, the Fawn B look catchable at just five points clear.

The latest loss came at the hands of soon to be former champions King Billy by a 6-5 score line with Antony Hayman top scoring thanks to eleven tons.

Hayman (30.67) was also brilliant during the singles phase with a 156 finish contributing to legs of 16, 18 and 15 darts during a 3-0 win over Jaden Whitting.

Whitting himself acquitted himself admirably with two 180s in the defeat that added to another effort he put onto the board in a doubles match to make it three for him personally.

The King Billy onslaught in the singles phase wasn't just from one man as Hayman's teammate Andrew Cook added a brace of 17 darters against Andy Bates in a 3-1 win.

The leg Bates won came in just 18 darts with the veteran adding a second 180 to his evening's work in the match having also nailed one in the team phase of play.

Scott Cook (24.64) was also clinical in his 3-0 demolition of Dave Matthews who was the only Greenbank player to reach ten ton plusses.

Cook added a leg in 17 during the match; a feat that was equalled by teammate Scott Wapshott in a 3-1 singles triumph.

Wapshott had earlier helped himself to his team's only maximum in one of only two team games that were won by the Devonport before they turned the game on it's head during the individuals.

Mike Pearce's performance dominated St Levans 6-5 defeat against Octagon as the Devon man found eleven three figure scoring visits on the night.

After sharing the first two games of the evening between the two sides, Pearce and his brother Tex (31.63) set about the Stonehouse side with a 19 dart 601 doubles that included a maximum from Mike Pearce.

The Keyham team lost the next two to go into the individual phase 3-2 down before recovering to 5-3 in a spell that saw Tex Pearce beat Dave Pethick 3-0 who threw a 180 in that defeat.

Mike Pearce showed his undoubted class with a 155 checkout and an 18 dart leg in his 3-0 win to win the second singles before Harry MacGregor won a narrow singles 3-2.

That would be the last leg the St Levans would win as a run of three 3-0 wins was finished off by Jayden Dodd in the final rubber of the evening.

Kelvin Rowe's ten ton haul wasn't bettered by any of the twelve on display in a 10-1 win for the A team over the Hammers in the Victory derby match.

Rowe's total was filled out by a 120 checkout and one of three maximums for his team as teammate Quinton Taylor netted himself a brace.

Rowe also checked the best leg of the contest with a fine 18 darter during his 3-0 singles win that was one of five his team managed.

A 7-4 win for Fawn A in their home match with Indian Inn saw Mark Hempsall bag himself a brace of 180s whilst teammate Dave Barton added a 116 checkout for the highest of the contest.

A Mike Bulmer 123 checkout was the only moment of magic during an 11-0 success for Bar Mez over the latest visitors to Cornwall; the Firkin Doghouse.
