O'Brien Was Alright On The Mike
Sixteen ton plusses from both Mike O'Brien and John Mann led leaders and reigning champions Fawn B to a 9-2 triumph in their visit to Cherry Tree in the Steve Chapman 501 League.
The cherry on top of the duo's totals was one maximum each of the five totalled up by the two teams as teammates Peter Holland and Dave Matthews joined Cherry Tree's Dan Brazier in equalling that feat.
Fred Goldsmith's admirable eleven ton haul was somewhat overshadowed by his teammates exploits whilst Danny Perryman reached ten ton plusses for the defeated team.
Brazier joined James Ewing to fire a 601 leg in just 17 darts whilst over the 501 distance there was a world class darts in almost all games.
O'Brien got over the line by a 3-2 score line with the help of an 18 dart leg whilst Matthews fell to Brazier 3-2 despite checking a leg in 17.
Peter Holland repeated Matthews' 17 darter in his 3-1 whilst Goldsmith did the same and followed it with one in 18 during his win by the same score line.
The best, however, was saved until last as Mann checked legs in 15 and 18 darts in a 3-1 win over Luke Beard who himself won his only success in five completed visits.
Mann also helped himself to the highest checkout of this particular encounter in that final win of the game with a 110 that bettered a 64 on the bull from Goldsmith.
Jayden Dodd heard scores of a ton or more called no fewer than thirteen times after throwing in Octagon's 8-3 triumph over Victory Hammers.
Dodd was well supported by Simon Washington who bagged ten tons whilst Robbie Bisgrove was the only player to throw a maximum in the match.
Whilst the Stonehouse side's younger guns sizzled, Dave Pethick and Alfie Ford showed experience counts for plenty as the pair put together a 20 dart 601 leg in a 2-0 doubles win.
Ford also showed his class at the business end of legs with a modest but more than respectable 86 checkout to claim the highest of the match.
Twelve tons for Scott Cook led King Billy to a 7-4 victory at Bar Mez in Cook's native Cornwall; that total propped up by a 104 checkout and one of two maximums in the match.
Andrew Cook nailed the other 180 whilst Scott Cook's checkout was straddled by two other ton plus finishes as Lee Rodmell fired a 100 finish to take third best on his way to twelve tons.
The best checkout of the night came from young starlet Frankie Stout who secured a a 124 three dart combination out in a 3-2 individual success.
That effort joined a crucial 17 darter in that five leg win; a winning number of darts that proved to be popular as both the Cook brothers repeated the feat in their respective triumphs.
Andrew Cook won 3-0 with his 17 dart leg and followed it with one in 16 whilst Scott Cook was eminently more efficient with legs in 18, 17 and 14 in a 3-1 victory.
Another leg in 18 was found by Rodmell who was one of three individual winners for the defeated Torpoint based outfit with a 3-0 win.
Quinton Taylor top scored with eleven tons in an entertaining 7-4 win for Victory A in their visit St Levans whilst Kelvin Rowe had his shooting boots on with ten three figure scores of his own.
One of those aforementioned efforts was a maximum that was joined by four more as teammates Paddy Archibald hit one and Paul Goundry bagged himself a brace.
Mike Pearce was the only 180 hitter for the defeated team; rounding off a ten ton personal tally at the end of a remarkable individual success.
Pearce (28.35) found a brace of 18 dart legs and a 17 darter in a 3-0 success; the latter adding to a 17 dart leg from Tony Tasker who also helped himself to the highest checkout of the week in the form of a 132 kill.
Goundry needed a leg in just 13 darts to put away Tex Pearce who checked a leg in 16 during his defeat by a 3-1 score line.
Lewis Byrne continued his spate of dazzling form for the Ker St with ten tons in a 7-4 success for the Devonport side against Duchy of Cornwall.
An 11-0 win for Victory C over Indian Inn was dominated by the form of Billy Evans who threw ten three figure scores overall.
There was a light dusting of other magical moments from Evans' teammates in the form of a 106 checkout by Mark Shears and the only maximum of the game from Jason Pinkerton.
Liam Taylor's 106 checkout was the sharpest of all shooting in Fawn A's 8-3 defeat to Kings Arms; for which Dave Johns (25.47) was in fine fettle during a 3-0 win.
The best leg of the match was shared between Paul Palmer who won 3-1 with the help of an 18 darter whilst Dave Clemson showed there's life in the old dog yet with matching leg in his 3-2 defeat.
