Mike Pearce's Big Fish
For four out of the last four seasons of the Steve Chapman 501 League, the highest finish of the season has been the biggest fish of all, a 170 checkout.
This season is no different after Mike Pearce nailed a a 170 combination for St Levans in a 10-1 triumph at Bar Mez.
Pearce added nine more tons to his night's work to make it to ten whilst the only moment of magic from the defeated team came from the arm of Scott Town with a 180.
If it wasn't for Pearce's super showing, the 156 checked by Wayne Davis in Victory Hammers' 7-4 win at Fawn A would've took the high checkout prize for the week.
That, and Dave Barton's 18 darter in his 3-1 win for the home side, provided the main highlights of this mid table battle.
Lewis Byrne's fourteen ton haul was matched by teammate Andrew Cook, but none of those heroics could lead King Billy to a win as they were downed by Cherry Tree C.
Nick Miller and Nick Bryant led the charge for the victors with thirteen scores of a ton or more each with two of Bryant's coming in the form of a 180.
Miller's teammate Melvyn German bagged himself a maxi whilst Cook's ton tally was ticked over to that mark by his team's only three treble visit.
Steve Mills' checkout of 124 for the victors was the best of all thirty-four finishes in the game whilst there was three decent games of 501 in the individual phase.
Byrne provided one of those with a 17 darter in his 3-1 loss to Mill whilst Scott Cook's 3-1 win was accented by 18 and 16 darters.
Scott Lawrey's twelve ton haul that included three of the six maximums dominated the Victory derby match between Victory A and Victory Fireballs that ended 9-2 to the former.
Lawrey's teammates Paul Goundry and Darren Collis added the other three maxis between them with the lion's share going to Goundry.
Lawrey showed his class at the business end of legs with a 141 checkout and legs of 14 and 15 darts during his accomplished 3-0 individual triumph.
That was one of four ton plus checkouts in the game as Quinton Taylor's 134 and 113 combinations settled for second and third best.
AJ Brunton's 106 three darter gave him the other three figure finish and that effort tipped his ton tally over to the eleven mark.
Brunton also performed admirably in the singles phase with legs of 501 put away in 17 and 18 darts to give him a 3-2 success over Collis.
Over the 601 distance, Taylor teamed with Tony Tasker and heard 'game shot' had combined to throw just 19 darts.
Steve Smout added eleven tons for Beacon Park to lead them to a 7-4 win over Octagon who had Alfie Ford at his majestic best.
Ford added a 180 to his ten ton haul and netted himself a 16 darter in a narrow 3-2 defeat whilst Smout's teammate Tom Baker added a checkout of 102 for the successful home side.
Dan Brazier's eleven scores of a ton or more couldn't arrest Cherry Tree A's slide to a 10-1 defeat at the hands of title chasing Fawn B.
Jack McMinn and John Mann provided the firepower for the victors with ten tons each with the latter adding a 117 combination out to his night's work.
McMinn was one of three 180 hitters in the game as he joined teammate Fred Goldsmith and Brazier in achieving that feat.
Cam O'Brien added one of three ton plus checkouts to his ten ton haul that led Cherry Tree D to a 9-2 win over The Exchange.
O'Brien's 132 bettered teammate Lee Wickett and Steve Towl who added a 124 and 104 to O'Brien's kill that gave their side the platform for a big win.
Three of the four 180s in Cherry Tree B's 8-3 win at Kings Arms went the way of the victorious visitors as Mark Shears brace was added to by Paul Gavican once.
Alec Turner provided the home side's only three treble visit and also added a 16 dart leg to Gavican's 14 darter in a 3-2 win for the former.
There was thirty-seven checkouts in the game but none of those were bigger than the 94 checked by Turner's teammate Paul Palmer.
A 100 combination out from Indian Inn's Ian Heggie bettered a 90 from Duchy's Jack Heath as Heggie's outfit claimed a 10-1 win over Heath's side.
Heggie's teammate Mark Hatherley was the only member of the duodectet on display to put a maximum onto the scoreboard.
Chris Adams heard 'game shot' called at the first time of asking from 106 during a 6-5 success for Tradesmans over Firkin Scholar.
