McMinn Jacks Up Standard In Classic

A stellar contest in the Steve Chapman 501 League between reigning champions Fawn B and Victory A saw one hundred and twenty-seven three figure scores plundered by the teams.

At the very forefront of that in an 8-3 win for his Greenbank based side was Jack McMinn who added one of the eight maximums to his seventeen scores of a ton or more.

John Mann's two maximums and a further effort by Simon Washington meant the 180 scoring was much closer than the match result at four apiece.

The scoring from the away side was led by the Scott Lawrey who nailed sixteen three figure visits including three of his team's four maximums.

Paul Goundry completed that particular quartet whilst Kelvin Rowe was also in good nick with thirteen ton plusses.

Tony Tasker meandered his way to twelve tons whilst two more players from the visitors topped their ton totals to the ten mark as Quinton Taylor and Darren Collis both reached that tally.

The old darting adage states 'scoring for show, doubles for dough' and that couldn't have been more apparent in this clash as despite being outgunned in the scoring phase, the champions found a way.

Mann and teammate Lee Agar added a 601 leg in 19 darts during a 2-1 doubles win whilst Goundry and Rowe combined to net a 21 darter over the same distance, but still fell to a 2-1 defeat.

After the team games left the match nicely poised at 3-2 to the home side, Mann opened the individuals with a 3-0 win that contained a 501 leg in 16 darts.

McMinn and Lawrey shared twenty-two ton plusses in a 3-2 win for the former, but chalk marks were put up by the victor in 17 and 18 darts with Lawrey returning fire in vein with legs in 17 and 15.

Agar continued the onslaught of points with a 3-0 win that saw him check one leg in 15 darts before Rowe stopped the rot with the narrowest of 3-2 wins.

Rowe's efforts included 16 and 18 darters before Washington was a 3-1 winner thanks in part to his 14 and 18 dart legs.

Reg Matthews 120 out shot was the joint best from the ten fixtures played in the league, and this combo helped Kings Arms to a 10-1 success at Victory Hammers.

Matthews' teammates Dave Johns and Paul Palmer both added 15 dart legs in their respective 3-0 singles successes.

Palmer also joined Chrissie Kinnaird in being the only two players of the twelve strong cohort on display to put up a 180 in the contest.

Matching Matthews' stunning finish was a 120 from Scott Cook, which helped his King Billy team to a 6-5 success at St Levans.

The man that defeated Cook in the individual phase, Mike Pearce, was the only player to reach ten tons and did so thanks in part to a 109 combination out.

Legs in 16 and 18 darts saw him over the line in that particular 3-2 win whilst Cook's leg in 18 was the best of his two chalk marks achieved.

Andrew Cook put away 89 at the first time of asking and was a 180 hitter on no fewer than four occasions for the victors.

Scott Cook and Brandon Hartley made it six three treble visits for the away side whilst Tex Pearce netted his side's only maxi.

Andrew Cook's (27.83) individual win contained three of his aforementioned 180s and legs in 17 and 18 darts for a 3-0 triumph.

Tex Pearce was a 3-0 winner with a 17 darter his top game of the night whilst that feat was matched by Anna Pearce in another 3-0 triumph.

Chris Edgecombe's fourteen ton haul gave Octagon the ammunition to claim a 6-5 home win over Cherry Tree A.

Edgecombe's tally included a 108 checkout that was the best kill of the close encounter and teammate Alfie Ford provided good support with eleven tons.

As the score line suggests, it wasn't all one traffic as Dan Brazier fired eleven three figure visits of his own whilst the singles phase saw Edgecombe and Luke Beard open with the best game of the contest.

A 3-2 win for the former saw 18 darters for both players and this was followed by the shortest leg of 501 in the matchup.

Brazier added that in a 3-1 success which started a mini revival from 4-2 down to 5-4 up before Ralph Lancaster rounded off proceedings with a 3-1 win to give the Stonehouse outfit the spoils.

AJ Brunton continued to show his best form for Victory Fireballs with twelve tons, but that effort couldn't arrest his side's slide to a 6-5 loss at Duchy.

Brunton showed as much prowess in the end stages of games with a 14 darter and a 91 checkout whilst teammate Phil Ingram put up the only maxi of the match.

Rob Wills' 105 three darter for the successful home side pushed Brunton's combination into second best in the contest that saw seven of the eleven rubbers deciding by a solitary leg.

Mark Hatherley gave a good account of himself with twelve ton plusses but still found himself on the wrong side of a 6-5 loss as Indian Inn were downed by Fawn A.

Hatherley's teammate Louis Yates put his name amongst the headline acts with the game's only maximum whilst two players stood out for the successful away side.

Mark Hempsall's 90 checkout had to settle for second best in the finishing stakes as teammate Dave Barton nailed a 96 combination in a 3-2 individual triumph.

Cherry Tree C were 10-1 better than local rivals Beacon Park thanks to the efforts of Nick Bryant who put up twelve tons over the course of the event.

He was well supported by Dave Lee who slotted two 180s on his way to an eleven ton haul whilst the man he defeated in the singles, Ashley Evens, showed his class.

Evens was a ton hitter on eleven occasions and also added a 15 dart leg in a narrow 3-2 loss that was one of five to be decided by a solitary leg.

Bryant repeated Evens 15 dart heroics in his 3-1 win whilst the best leg of 601 came from teammates Steve Mills and Nick Miller who bagged a solid 19 darter over that distance.

The highlight of what was a quiet night from Cornwall county A team star, Lee Hellings, was a combination out shot of 98.

Eleven tons rained down from the arm of Kevin Evans in an 8-3 win for Tradesmans at The Exchange that saw no fewer than three maximums.

Evans was one of those lucky recipients of a '180' call whilst teammate Keanan Grimshaw added one more for the away side with Jack Gilbert completing the trio.

Lee Rodmell stole all of the headlines for Bar Mez in their 7-4 victory when visiting Firkin Scholar as he heard '180' called no fewer than three times after throwing and added a 99 three dart finish to his night's work.

The only reported highlight for the leaders Cherry Tree derby day win was a Mark Shears maximum as Cherry Tree B downed the D team from the same venue.
