McMinn Is Leader Of The Jack

Jack McMinn won the Monday Premier League's inaugural Charlie Mitchell Memorial Shield at the Indian Inn to take home his first darting individual trophy.



The charity tournament being held in memory of the late, great, Charlie Mitchell raised £73 for MacMillan Cancer Support.


The star studded sixteen player tournament was kicked off with a 3-1 win for Bluebird B's Dale Halford in which he nailed an 18 darter.



A 108 checkout to finish off an 18 darter from Colebrook's Dan Giles couldn't arrest his slide to a 3-1 defeat against Octagon B's Chris Edgcumbe.


Bluebird A's McMinn was 2-0 down against Harry Bull of the Indian after the former Devon youngster checked 74 and 68 in single visits.



McMinn rallied to a 2-2 win during a spell in which he checked 82 in a single visit before closing the game out thanks in part to some missed darts at a double from his opponent.


Cherry Tree A's Mike Whatley started his first round game with a 110 checkout and made it 2-1 in 17 darts against Alan Masters of the Bluebird A.



This performance only seamed to spur on Masters who fired back with legs in 18 and 17 darts to book his place amongst a fine last 8 field.


Victory B's Paul Goundry was the fifth player in the draw as his 114 checkout aided him to a 3-0 win over Dave Lee who represented Cherry Tree B on the night.



The first maximum of the occasion was put onto the scoreboard by Octagon B's Dave Wyatt, but he was downed by Bluebird C marksman Lee Roberts.


Jayden Dodd, who represented Octagon A, got his campaign for the title up and running with a 3-0 before Bluebird C's Glenn Halford also won three legs without reply.



Dodd then added his name amongst the last four with a 3-2 win over Masters who still had time to produce a leg in 18.


Goundry was the second name into the semis after producing fireworks in his 3-1 win over Roberts that contained legs in 17 and 16 darts as well as a maximum.



A Bluebird derby matchup between McMinn (26.37) and Dale Halford was dominated by the former as he won 3-0 in a match that included the third maximum overall.


A 118 checkout from Glenn Halford was followed by a 102 from Edgcumbe before missed darts from the Octagon man let Halford off of the hook by a 3-2 score line to complete the final four.



McMinn once again squoze through after legs of 16 and 17 darts enabled the player from the Compton venue to defeat Goundry 3-2.


Despite Halford checking a leg in 18, Dodd survived match darts against to keep his hopes of the trophy alive with a 3-2 win.



Like all true champions, McMinn (26.84) saved his best performance of the night until last to blow away Dodd in the final in a 3-0 success that contained legs in 16 and 17 darts to take the title.
