Maximum Madness In Top Of The Table Clash

Victory C inflicted a second defeat of the season on Steve Chapman 501 League leaders Fawn B in a remarkable battle that saw maximums being called no fewer than nine times.

With the scores locked at 5-5, three of those 180s went to Danny Allen in a 3-2 last leg deciding win that gave his team the narrowest of victories.

Allen racked up fourteen three figure scores overall on the night, to opponent Lee Agar's twelve, with one of those being a crucial 155 checkout that took the honours for the highest of the week.

That effort bested a 113 from teammate Billy Evans in the first outing of the night in which the Victory withstood a John Mann maximum.

Fawn B replied with a 119 checkout in the second trebles from Andy Bates before giving themselves a 3-2 lead going into the individual phase of play.

Jason Pinkerton levelled the match at 3-3 with a 3-0 win that saw him win one leg in a phenomenal 11 darts before Evans returned to the board to hit a maximum in his 3-0 triumph.

Paul Gavican put his team on the brink of overturning deficits of 2-1 and 3-2 with a 3-0 win before two of Devon's heavyweights clashed as Mark Shears and John Mann toed the oche.

The game did not disappoint as Shears completed his thirteen ton haul but was roundly defeated by Mann in a 3-1 defeat.

Mann added two more 180s to give him three overall; a total that added handsomely to fourteen ton plusses, whilst Mann showed his superiority with legs of 16 and 14.

Jaden Whitting then added a fourth 180 for his team during his 3-0 win to setup the Allen versus Agar clash that went all the way.

The win for the Honicknowle side adds more credence to their fading title hopes as they managed to close the gap to seven points.

Glyn Wells top scored with thirteen ton plusses as Kings Arms earned a pulsating 6-5 victory over St Levans.

Wells was supported by Warren Gordon who hit eleven tons whilst Dave Algar and Simon Washington both reached ten for their evening's work.

Algar's total was accented by a maximum; a feat reproduced by teammate Paul Hendy and Anna Johnson who hit her Keyham side's only effort of the game.

Chrissie Kinnaird was also in good nick as she checked 115 in a single visit to the board, but by the time Mike Pearce completed his ten ton haul, the Oreston team found themselves 5-2 down.

Pearce showed his undoubted class in winning his singles 3-0 with the help of a 17 dart leg before the fight back started with a Washington 3-0 win.

Wells (28.36) 3-0 triumph was claimed in just 53 darts with 17 and 15 dart legs the best before a 3-0 success for Kinnaird over her former Devon teammate Johnson left the game nicely poised at 5-5.

And it was Algar who held his nerve to take the 3-1 victory with the help of a 15 darter along the way to ensure the win went back with the visitors.

Twelve ton plusses from Andrew Cook led the way for King Billy to succeed 11-0 in their home match with Duchy Of Cornwall.

Cook's 16 darter in his 3-0 success matched that of his teammate Reece Day who added one of his own in a 3-1 triumph.

Antony Hayman joined Duchy's George Ford in hitting a maximum in the tie whilst there was an 18 dart leg for Scott Wapshott in another 3-1 win for the Devonport side.

A 9-2 success for Victory A in their away match with Fawn A saw Quinton Taylor win his singles 3-0 with legs in 16 and 18 darts doing most of the damage.

Scott Lawrey's 116 checkout for the Honicknowle team in another 3-0 individual win was only beaten by a 130 from Paul Goundry in a same score line success.

With the top two doing damage to each other's title credentials, Victory A might yet have an outside chance at the championship as they are now just seven off the top themselves.

An 18 darter from Maria O'Brien in her 3-0 singles win proved to be crucial as Victory D narrowly defeated Bar Mez 6-5.

The Cornwall based side did however have Scott Town finishing in one visit from 116 whilst Town's teammate Lee Rodmell provided the only maximum of the game.

Victory Hammers took all points on offer in an 11-0 success over Firkin Doghouse, in which Ryan Harris scored the only maximum of the game.
