Mark Sparks Victory Success

Mark Shears fourteen ton haul was the main catalyst behind the Victory A's Plymouth City Super League 7-4 win over Steampacket.

Shears was one of three 180 hitters for the Honicknowle side as teammates Paul Gavican and Matt Chegwin both fired an effort each.

It certainly wasn't a one man mission though as Chegwin's 116 checkout was the highest of the week and the cherry on top of a twelve ton haul whilst Scott Cook also produced flames from the oche with ten tons.

As the score line suggests, it certainly wasn't all one way traffic as Marc Webber top scored for the defeated side with twelve tons.

Webber's teammate George Beckett bagged eleven three figure scores for himself and also managed the shortest recorded leg with a 17 darter in a 3-1 success.

Cook also managed an 18 darter in a 3-0 triumph whilst Webber matched that feat when winning last on to make the score line deservedly respectable.

Tex Pearce's thirteen tons was critical in getting St Levans over the line to a 6-5 win against Fawn A who had Simon Stevenson throwing as many as three maximums in the match.

Pearce's teammate Mark Hopkins was also in good nick for the Keyham side with a maximum and the game's high checkout of 76.

Dave Hollow's thirteen ton heroics turned out to be in vein as Colebrook were beaten by a talented Saltram side.

Warren Gordon reached as many as eleven tons for the victors and also helped himself to the best leg of the contest; a leg in 18 during a 3-1 individual success.

Other moments of brilliance in the match came from Reg Matthews and Simon Kelly who notched a 73 checkout, which was proclaimed as the best of the match.

Dale Halford's blistering form continued in Bluebird B's 9-2 triumph over Clifton in which Halford found three figure scores on no fewer than twelve occasions.

Despite ending on the wrong side of a heavy defeat, Wayne Town still showed his class with ten tons whilst teammate Dan Jewell checked 92 in a single visit for the best of the contest.

The top two clashed with soon to be dethroned current champions King Billy inflicting the dominant Octagon's first defeat of the season in a 6-5 turnaround.

Octagon were once again quick out of the blocks as John Mann, Dave Matthews and Alfie Ford (27.81) teamed for a 36 dart 1001 leg to open the scoring.

And by the time Fred Goldsmith won his singles 3-1 with the help of an 18 darter to make it 4-2, the Stonehouse side looked like massive favourites to claim a thirty-fourth win from as many starts.

However, Lee Doncaster survived a Neil White 18 dart leg and hit a 104 checkout to come out on top 3-2; the latter finishing on ten tons for the evening.

Doncaster was one of four men to hit a maximum in the overall contest with White providing the first in a doubles success.

The Devonport team levelled before Mann added a brace of 180s to ten other tons to make it twelve personally for the night in a 3-0 success that saw him also check the best leg of the contest with a 14 darter.

That left the game precariously poised at 5-4 to the league leaders before Antony Hayman won 3-0 and Geoff Heath succeeded 3-2 with a 109 checkout to delight the home side and round off a superb contest.

Kings Arms B got the better of Victory B 6-5 but not before Adam Fell produced a ten ton personal haul whilst teammate Scott Hutchinson fired the best finish of the match with a brilliant 96 kill.

Rick Trinder's 180 helped Cherry Tree to the biggest win of the week with a 10-1 away success at Victoria who had Gary Eaton notching a 78 checkout.

Ralph Lancaster's 180 was the only noteworthy contribution from both sides during a 7-4 defeat for Ker St away at Raffles.

A 100 checkout from Kevin Marshall wasn't enough to arrest Duchy B's slide to a 9-2 defeat away at Victory C who claimed an eighth success of the campaign.

James Duke's 88 checkout was the best of a contest that saw his Hyde Park side claim a 9-2 triumph over Kings Arms A.

Fawn B's recent up turn in fortunes continued as they belied their much lower league position to best Bluebird A by a 6-5 score line.

In spite of the narrow loss, the team chasing fourth spot in the standings still picked off both headline grabbing moments in the match with Lee Roberts 78 checkout and Glenn Austin's maximum.
