Mark Shows His Shear Class
Mark Shears ploughed in sixteen three figure scores as Victory A leaped into second place in the Plymouth City Super League with Colebrook beaten 9-2.
Shears also claimed a leg in 15 darts; the best of the match as he defeated his individual opponent by a 3-1 score line.
Supporting Shears was Danny Allen who claimed the evening's only maximum on his way to eleven ton plusses personally.
Of the defeated team, Steve Hiscox performed the best with eleven tons of his own as well as a crucial 18 darter in a 3-2 singles success.
Harry Bull continues to bely his tender years of both experience and age with performances like the one he put in for Raffles against Saltram in a 10-1 win for the Mutley team.
Bull threw the highest checkout of the week; a 126 three dart combination on his way to fourteen ton plusses overall.
Bull also added an 18 dart leg in his 3-1 success over Reg Matthews, which was equalled and bettered three times by the other eleven competitors on display.
Warren Gordon (26.84) added legs of 18 and 17 in Saltram's only point of the match, which was claimed with by a 3-0 score.
Alec Turner netted himself a leg in 17 during a 3-1 win whilst Danny Bull had to withstand a 16 darter from Paul Hendy to run out a 3-1 winner.
In the entertaining clash, there was also four maximums as Danny Bull was joined by teammate James Ewing, Reg Matthews and Warren Gordon in achieving that particular feat.
That effort from Ewing was one of twelve for him personally on a night rounded off by a 3-2 individual success in the final tie of the match.
The relentless Octagon continue to plough an unchallenged path to the title after their 11-0 derby win over bottom side Duchy B.
John Mann and Neil White were both in fine fettle for the imperious Stonehouse side with thirteen three figure scores each; one of which came from a 116 checkout from Mann for the highest of the match.
White's total was also topped up by a brace of maximums with the other 180 in the tie coming from teammate Dave Matthews.
Octagon once again showed their dominance from very early on with the first trebles put away by a 100 checkout by Mann in just 39 darts.
That gave Mann and teammates Matthews and Alfie Ford a very respectable average of 25.67 over the 1001 format.
White teamed with Lee Hellings and Fred Goldsmith (26.34) to go one better in the very next leg as they checked their trebles in 38 darts.
The third tie of the night produced an even better standard as Mann and Matthews (27.81) paired for a 36 dart 1001 leg.
The legs continued to flow in the direction of the champions elect all night, Goldsmith's 3-0 individual win was accented by a brace of 18 darters.
White (29.47) struck another 3-0 win with a two legs in 15 whilst Mann (27.33) dispatched his individual matchup with a 15 darter of his own that was quickly followed by a leg in 18.
A close fought matchup between Bluebird A and Clifton ended in a 6-5 win for the former, but it was Wayne Town who starred for the latter with twelve tons.
On paper, the glaring difference between the two teams was in the 180 count as the visitors from Compton added four for their night's work.
Alan Masters threw two on his way to ten ton plusses whilst Glenn Halford and Stuart Couling rounded off that quartet of maximums.
Halford added nine more tons to his evening to reach double figures whilst himself and Masters both checked a leg in 16 during 3-0 and 3-1 wins respectively.
The leg Masters lost saw Neil Holder finish an 18 darter with a 112 three dart combination outshot, which was the largest recorded between the two teams.
Simon Stevenson's two 180s in a 10-1 win for Fawn A over Duchy A helped towards a twelve ton personal tally for the victors.
Dan Bunney also showed good form with a brace of 180s in a 3-0 win with a fifth maximum of the game coming from teammate Mike Nancholas.
Victory C were put to the sword by Steampacket with their 10-1 win dominated by the form of George Beckett who put ten ton plusses onto the scoreboard.
Beckett's 120 started the match as it meant to go on in the very first tie of the night before Marc Webber, Tony Reid and Mike Connell (26.34) combined for a 38 dart 1001 trebles.
At the start of the individual phase, Connell added the first of two maximums for his team in a 3-1 personal success.
The scintillating Beckett then returned to the board add the second with a brace of 17 darters crowning a 3-0 singles win.
Dave Johns ten tons lit up a Plymstock derby match between Kings B and Victoria that ended in a 7-4 win for the former.
The two best legs of the night came from players on the defeated side as Mick Bingham's 13 darter in his 3-0 win was followed by a leg in 17 by Aaron Wright in another whitewash win.
Dave Lee's ten tons wasn't enough to arrest Cherry Tree's slip to a 6-5 defeat at the hand of Ker St who had Ian Heggie in good form with a maximum.
With the Pennycross team's fate already sealed at 6-4, Steve Mills made the score line respectable with a 3-0 win that contained a 115 checkout.
Scott Hutchinson heard three figure scores called no less than ten times during a 6-5 win for Victory B over Kings Arms A.
Paul Hoare was also prominent with a pair of maximum; a third being added by Lewis Dare for the hosts from Honicknowle.
Steve Dobson's 180 and an 87 checkout from Alan Brady were the only moments of magic in a 10-1 defeat for Fawn B during their visit to St Levans.
Defeated by the same score line were Hyde Park as they fell victim to a rampant Bluebird B in their visit to Compton.
