Lee Gives Opponents Hell But Misses Title By One Leg

A bumper night of fixtures at Legends Lounge saw Lee Hellings plunder five maximums across two games but still miss out on the Premier League 2 title.

Two 180s in his 7-1 success over Liam Taylor meant a win in his final matchup would secure the championship and top seeding in the Final's Night bottom half of the draw.

However, Hellings lost 7-6 in a last leg decider to Dave Hollow despite adding three more 180s to his overall tally of eighteen for the season.

Hollow made it a hat-trick of wins from three starts on the night to secure seventh in the standings after defeating Darren Smith 7-2 with Smith getting as many 180s as legs in the match.

Hollow added a brace of 180s of his own in his final outing on the regular season in a 7-1 success over Del Bryce.

The aforementioned Hellings defeat left the door narrowly open for Scott Lawrey who secured the title with wins of 7-1 over twelfth placed Sean Burkitt, and 7-2 against Bryce who finished in fourteenth.

Both Hellings and Lawrey finished on 100 points after fifteen played but Lawrey's leg difference was four better than his counterpart, which was helped by the two large victories on the night to take the £170 prize.

Andrew Cook did everything he could to put his name on top of the leaderboard; finishing one point shy of a century after two wins in the final league night to leave him third.

Cook powered past Sean Taylor 7-2 despite Taylor's 180 and followed that with a superb performance against Darren Smith in which there was a maximum each and four ton plus checkouts.

Cook's 116, 118 and 120 combinations usurped a 104 from Smith to lead Cook to a 7-4 win and third place whilst Smith ends his campaign in eleventh.

Jason Pinkerton also came up short in the title race to finish a respectable fourth but picked up the prize of top 180 hitter in the league with twenty-eight of the two hundred and seventy-eight thrown in the competition.

Pinkerton added five to that total in his two matchups as a solitary effort in a 7-0 win over Liam Taylor was followed by four more in a 7-1 success over Sarah Brown.

Brown succumbed to Darren Smith 7-1 in her other rubber of the night with Smith adding a maximum to his body of work.

Scott Hutchinson will be the sixth seed in the bottom half of the draw after losing out to fifth placed Paul Gavican in a final leg shootout that settled their mini rivalry in the top half of the standings by a single point.

Gavican first came through 7-6 against Danny Perryman with the help of a 180 to set up the winner takes all match against Hutchinson.

Gavican's second 7-6 win of the night contained a 180 for each player whilst Hutchinson added a 106 checkout in the defeat, which followed the highest finish of the week in his previous game.

Hutchinson put up a three dart combination of 149 and a maximum in a 7-4 defeat of Nick Cordrey, who kept himself off of the bottom of the standings by accumulating seven more points than Liam Taylor on the night.

Cordrey was defeated by fellow bottom half dweller Sean Taylor 7-4 in his final fixture, but points accrued was enough to ensure he goes into final's night as the fifteenth seed.

Tenth seed Frankie Stout climbed a place in the final reckoning thanks to two 180s in a 7-3 triumph over Sean Burkitt that followed a 7-1 win over eighth placed Perryman.

In Premier League 1, Neil White picked up the £170 top prize after wins of 7-2 over Danny Bull and 7-1 against Matt Kingdon gave him enough points to claim a five point lead over Dan Brazier.

Two wins of 7-2 for Paul Palmer give him the third seed slot as he downed Robbie Aitken and James Ewing respectively.

Ninth placed Ewing and Billy Evans share the £50 high checkout prize evenly after the pair had 170 checkouts earlier in the season.

Evans started the final regular season week with a 7-2 win over Chris Edgcumbe but was edged by Scott Wapshott to fourth in the standings, partially as a consequence of a 7-4 loss to Maria O'Brien.

Four 180s between Evans and O'Brien lit up that affair and O'Brien could've finished higher than her sixth placed standing if she hadn't been downed 7-2 by Wapshott.

Wapshott ended his campaign strongly after the O'Brien success, in which there was three maximums as Wapshott scored two to O'Brien's one.

Wapshott followed that performance with a 7-1 win over Tom James who chalked two 180s in a 7-5 win over Robbie Aitken to climb to eleventh over Danny Bull.

Bull will be slightly disappointing in dropping down to twelfth after suffering a second 7-2 defeat of the night with Paul Hendy finishing eighth as a result of that Bull success.

It had looked like Hendy would drop out of the top half after a 7-1 defeat to Kieran Burns left him with a mountain to climb to retain his final standing.

Burns checked 104 in that match and finished his night comfortably in seventh after an 7-0 win over Kelly Burkitt.

Final's night is due to take place from 7pm on 14th December with the draw split into two sections of Premier League 1 and Premier League 2.

All thirty-two competitors in the league will be out in force and spectators are welcomed to this unique spectacle, in which one arrowsmith will be crowned Legends Lounge Premier League Champion.
