King George's Team Downed By Legends Despite Heroics

George Beckett threw everything he had at leaders Legends Lounge but still found himself on the wrong end of an 8-3 loss as Steampacket were downed in Division A of the Plymouth City Super League.

Beckett finished the evening with two maximums and fifteen three figure scores, whilst Paul Gavican's 180 was the highest score thrown for the St Budeaux outfit.

Overall though, Scott Wapshott top scored with eleven ton plusses for the top side in the division whilst Ant Pearn was prominent in the scoring stakes with ten three figure scores.

The ruthless throughout finishing was highlighted by Ant Pearn's 112 out shot that was only bettered by a 122 from teammate Dan Brazier.

Brazier's 1-3 defeat to Beckett in the individual phase saw Brazier's only leg come in 16 darts whilst Beckett netted a 13 darter in the win.

Mark Shears won his singles 3-0 thanks in part to a 16 darter of his own whilst Scott Cook was in good nick with legs in 13 and 18 darts during another 3-0 triumph.

Lee Hellings led the way with fourteen three figure scores for the last single league champions Octagon in a 10-1 success over Victory.

Hellings tally was propped up with a brace of maximums, which were two of the six overall in the match as teammates Alfie Ford, John Mann and Dave Matthews added to Chris Beale's effort for the defeated side.

Mann ended the evening with eleven tons whilst that figure was matched by Fred Goldsmith with an undectet of three figure scores.

The game was decided by just how clinical the Stonehouse side were at the business end of legs, starting off in the third doubles thanks to a 601 leg put away in just 18 darts by Goldsmith and teammate Neil White.

Hellings (28.36) was a 3-0 winner with legs of 17 and 16 darts contributing heavily whilst Goldsmith (27.83) hit a trio of 18 darters in his 3-0 success and Mann (24.64) added a leg in 14 in another 3-0 triumph.

Fourteen ton plusses for Antony Hayman gave King Billy the platform for a 6-5 win over Kings Arms B with Hayman's total topped up by one of the three maximums on offer from the teams.

Paddy Archibald added one of those three treble visits to his ton haul of eleven whilst Mark Yeoman was the other 180 hitter.

Paul Palmer also showed his undoubted class with eleven ton plusses, including a checkout of 108, but as the score line suggests, it certainly wasn't one way traffic all evening.

Dave Johns fired thirteen three figure scores whilst two ton plus checkouts showed the Oreston side's prowess in the finishing stakes.

Paul Carpenter's 119 checkout was the only effort to beat a 100 kill from teammate Simon Kelly whilst Johns 13 darter proved to be crucial in a 3-2 individual triumph.

Palmer also notched a brace of fabulous legs; taking 16 and 17 darters in a 3-1 success that gave his Devonport side an unassailable 6-4 lead before Roger Backway defeated Hayman 3-2 to make the score line respectable.

Tony Teal and teammate James Stoodley added ten ton hauls as Bluebird A bested Saltram 7-4 whilst their teammate Lee Roberts chalked up the only maximum in the match.

A 108 checkout from Teal was only bettered on the night by a 123 from Liam Page in his 3-1 individual triumph whilst teammate Mark Lyons added ten tons of his own for the defeated side.

Dale Halford's ten ton haul couldn't stop the Bluebird B from slipping to a 6-5 defeat in their visit to Fawn A in which Halford checked legs in 16 and 17 darts to take his individual game 3-0.

Despite the Greenbank outfit leading three times, the visitors from Compton pulled back each deficit to leave the game nicely poised at 5-5 going into the last matchup.

And Dave Pethick did not disappoint the home contingent as he rallied to a 3-0 win that was helped along by a 15 dart leg and a game high checkout of 97.

James Hughes shoes were not as sharp as his shooting in Cherry Tree A's 7-4 win over Indian Inn that contained ten tons.

The highest checkout of the week in Division A of 123 ticked that total into double figures whilst the Stoke village side's main contribution was a brace of maximums from Danny Bull.

Kev Seal's thirteen ton plusses in Clifton's 9-2 win over Duchy A was the best of all of the Division B cohort whilst teammate Wayne Town put up the only maximum on the night.

Town (25.47) also led the way in the finishing stakes as he nailed a 119 checkout and an 18 darter in his 3-0 individual success.

That Town effort bettered an 89 checkout from Ross Blake whilst Neil Holder added an 18 darter of his own in a 3-1 win.

Andy Malinowski led the way for leaders Cornwall Gates as they extended their lead at the top to four points thanks to a 6-5 win over second placed Cherry Tree B.

Malinowski put twelve tons onto the scoreboard whilst Simon Stevenson's ten tons was propped up by one of the four maximums.

Teammate Colin Dan and Cherry Tree's Kevin Doel added to that tally of 180s whilst Shaun Dring's 84 kill in a 3-0 win made it 5-5 going into the last game.

Lewis Dare rounded off his evening's work with a 16 dart leg and a maximum that left him on ten tons of his own after his 3-0 win that gave the St Budeaux side the spoils.

Mike Sant's ten ton haul couldn't arrest Kings Arms A's slide to a 6-5 defeat in their visit to St Levans, which came down to the very last leg.

John Sturdy fired a 114 checkout during the match whilst Pete Down's two maximums were the only efforts of their kind before Harry MacGregor got his team over the line with a 3-2 victory.

The highest checkout across both divisions of 130 was netted by Mike Bassett in a 6-5 win for Fawn B in their visit to Kings Tamerton.

Lee Soper's three dart combination out shot of 118 was the best put onto the scoreboard for the hosts who suffered the narrowest of defeats.

Mick Bingham lit up Victoria's 6-5 defeat at Ker St with a maximum and a 17 darter in his 3-0 individual success, but Paul Tackle snatched the win for the home side as his 3-0 win gave his team the eleventh tie.

Ben Welsh added a maximum as Hyde Park were 9-2 winners in their visit to Stonehouse and the Duchy Of Cornwall B.
