John's Battle To Be Plymouth's Main Mann Continues

John Mann looks like he will be in with a shout of adding a fourth Champion of Champions crown after an accomplished 3-0 win at the Fawn in the preliminary round.

Mann bagged two 17 dart legs to go alongside a 126 checkout on his way to that victory without losing a leg which put him into the last 64 stage.

The next stage will also contain Lee Hellings who threw a third 17 darter of the evening in a 3-0 success over Marc Webber.

Danny Bull, Glenn Austin, Mark Hopkins, Steve Towl and Andrew Hawes were also lucky recipient of a last 64 birth, which will be played over four venues.

Scott Wapshott hit the first of the two 180s in the Legends Lounge first stage showing but found Paul Freeman in good form as the latter came through 3-1.

Chris Edgecombe put up the other maximum in the final game of the night but found Paul Palmer in decent form.

Palmer won through 3-1 with the help of a 118 checkout and a leg in 16 to book his place in the round of 64 whilst Paul Goundry also showed he is up for a title tilt in his 3-1 win.

A 15 darter and a 101 checkout gave Goundry two of a trio of legs in his 3-1 triumph over Chris Adams whilst Darren Collis, Louis Yates, James Nicholls and James Duke completed the line up of victors.

Kevin Lofthouse put on the only maximum and a 13 darter but still came unstuck 3-2 to Jack McMinn in the Indian Inn's staging of the preliminary round.

Ryan Ring was also edged 3-2 with Gary Clarke his conqueror but not before Ring plundered a leg in just 16 darts.

There was a notable 3-0 win for Quinton Taylor over Fred Goldsmith whilst Robbie Aitken, Alec Turner, Simon Stevenson and Liam Taylor all joined Clarke and McMinn in the next round draw.

Four former champions make up the sixty-four strong field that will be whittled down to the sixteen elite on Sunday, 24th November.

Three time Champ Mann is drawn into the Victory whilst the King Billy will play host to 2000 Champion Bruce Harrison.

Harrison may need to get past former semi-finalist Reg Matthews as well as previous finalist Andy Bates and in form Lee Hellings who might think that this year is his to finally reach his potential.

In amongst the contenders at the Fawn will be six time reigning Champion Simon Stevenson and 2018 Champion Neil White.

Scott Lawrey and Quinton Taylor have both reached final's night on occasions and will prove potential banana skins for the former winners.

A star studded line up sees the talented sextet of Ben Waters, Jason Pinkerton, Jack McMinn, Zak Smith, Mike Whatley and Nick Bryant all looking to put their name amongst the elite from the same Greenbank venue.

Former Final's Night competitors Scott Cook, Danny Bull, Paul Palmer, Mark Shears, Alfie Ford and Andrew Cook headline the cohort who will battle for the coveted last 16 spots in the Indian Inn.

The best of 5, 501 format continues with one draw taking place at 7pm on the night determining who will play whom in both the last 64 and last 32 stages of play.

The winners from two rounds played on the same night will then move on to playoff on Final's Night for the famous old trophy at Victory Inn on Sunday, 15th December.
