Indian Off The Mark Despite Hatherley Heroics
Mark Hatherley ploughed home no fewer than seventeen scores of a ton or more but still found himself on the wrong end of an 8-3 Plymouth City Super League Division A loss as Indian A were downed by Cherry Tree A.
Danny Bull and Warren Page supported Hatherley well with contributions of thirteen and ten tons to keep the scoreboard ticking over throughout.
In the finishing side of the game Bull's teammate Leighton Wilson added an 85 checkout that was only bettered by a 94 from the victor's Luke Beard.
Bull met Beard in the individual phase of play and both players added a 17 dart leg during a 3-1 success for the former, which was the only defeat of the individual phase inflicted upon the away team.
Simon Stevenson lit up a glittering stage of talent with seventeen ton plusses for Cornwall Gate but still found himself on the wrong end of an 8-3 loss away at champions elect Octagon.
That mammoth effort was usurped by the collective scoring power of the leaders with John Mann adding two of the five 180s his team plundered to a twelve ton haul.
Paul Palmer was the next best in the scoring stakes for his team with eleven tons whilst Neil White and Lee Hellings both made their way to ten ton plusses.
Palmer and Hellings added to Alfie Ford's maximum to round off that particular quintet of three treble visits whilst the business end of legs was dominated with world class play.
Ford's 98 checkout claimed the best finish of the contest whilst Mann teamed with Fred Goldsmith well for a 22 dart leg in the 601 doubles.
Stevenson and Steve Rice bagged the visitors' first point of the contest with legs in 22 and 19 darts during a 2-1 doubles win that contribute to the St Budeaux based outfit going into the singles at 3-2 down.
Palmer (25.91) dispatched his opponent 3-0 before Stevenson added a leg in 17 darts to his 3-1 success that was the chalk mark put on Stevenson's team's side of the scoreboard.
Stevenson's teammate Andy Malinowski took a leg in 17 darts during his 3-1 defeat before the game was rounded off by Mann in exceptional fashion.
Mann's (28.90) 3-0 individual triumph saw him bag two 17 darters to go alongside a leg in 18 darts to exert the Stonehouse side's dominance.
Simon Washington continued his good start to life in Friday's big league with a twelve ton haul including one of the four maximums shared between the two teams in Bluebird B's 7-4 loss at Cherry Tree C.
That win owed much to the form of Frankie Stout and Dan Jewell who nailed ten tons apiece throughout the affair.
The former's total was topped up by one of his team's maximums as Darren Smith joined Stout in hitting one whilst Washington's teammate Wayne Oddie completed the 180 hitting.
Steve Towl's 107 checkout was the best of all thirty finishes in the game whilst Devon teammates Stout and Washington showed their county class in the individuals.
Stout (29.33) bagged himself legs in 15 and 13 darts during his 3-0 win whilst Washington was a 3-1 winner thanks in part to 15 and 18 darters of his own.
George Beckett was a twelve ton hitter for Steampacket in the Devonport derby but couldn't arrest his team's slide to an 8-3 loss against King Billy.
Beckett's teammate Marc Webber was also in decent nick during the scoring phase of play with ten ton plusses whilst Tony Tasker top scored for the victors with ten scores of a ton or more.
The man that edged Webber 3-2 in the individual phase, Antony Hayman, did so with the help of two of the three maximums in the match.
Webber added a leg in 17 during that loss whilst Hayman's 15 darter proved to be crucial in a game that saw all five legs decided in seven visits or fewer.
The other three treble visit came from the defeated team and by the arm of Neal Hotchkiss whilst two ton plus checkouts were found during the contest.
Hayman's 116 combination helped himself and Tasker to a 2-1 doubles win whilst Phil Taylor narrowly bettered that with a 118 kill.
The scoring power and overall form of Dave Johns lit up Kings Arms B's 10-1 win over Ker St, which saw Johns dominate almost all aspects of the matchup.
Johns' added a 14 dart leg to checkouts of 94 and 80, which all came in a 3-0 singles win that finished with Johns' also walking away from the oche with ten tons for his night's work.
Teammate Simon Kelly also contributed to the highlight reel with a checkout of 82 that sat nicely alongside his team's only maximum.
The home side had to wait until the final singles rubber to pick up a first point of the night as Paul Tackle stopped the rot with a 3-1 win that contained his team's only 180.
