In The Nick Of Time

Nick Bryant's fifteen scores of a ton or more could not be beaten in any of the ten fixtures played during week thirty of the Steve Chapman 501 League.

That mammoth total helped Cherry Tree C to an 8-3 derby day win over their stablemates, the Cherry Tree A team.

The cherry on top of Bryant's ton total was a 122 checkout that was only bettered in the match by teammate Lewis Dare who took out one leg of a 3-0 win with a finish of 144.

Steve Mills and Lee Hellings both claimed a 180 each for the designated away victors whilst that pair of three treble visits came in individual games of mixed fortunes.

Mills was defeated 3-2 despite plundering a leg in 17 darts against James Ewing who himself finished a successful night personally on ten tons.

Hellings on the other hand was a 3-1 winner thanks in part to one of his trio of legs being taken out in just 18 darts.

Fourteen tons from Antony Hayman weren't enough for King Billy as he saw his visitors from Devonport succumb to a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Octagon.

The away side squandered leads of 4-2 and 5-3 before watching Jayden Dodd complete the comeback in the eleventh and final game.

Dodd ended his night with a 3-0 win that gave the Stonehouse side the points and walked away from the oche with a handsome ten ton plusses.

Hayman was supported well in the narrow defeat by Andrew Cook who nailed eleven tons to the wall whilst at the business end of legs, a number of competitors showed their class.

Dodd's teammate Alfie Ford picked off 150 in a single visit during a 2-0 doubles win when partnering Chris Edgecombe that gave him the highest checkout of the matchup and of the week across all fixtures.

Ford and Edgecombe started an avalanche of excellent games with a 21 dart 601 leg before Hayman added the first of two 180s in the contest overall in a 2-0 doubles success of their own.

Ford checked a leg in 18 darts but saw two more finished in the same number of darts against him during a 3-1 loss to Cook.

Hayman (28.90) added a 13 darter in his 3-0 individual win, which left the visitors needing one point from the final three ties to claim the spoils of war.

Robbie Bisgrove added a three treble visit on his way to a 3-2 win over Scott Cook before Frankie Stout was edged by Edgecombe 3-2 despite Stout's 17 darter to setup Dodd's path to victory.

Ian Heggie heard scores of a ton or more called no fewer than thirteen times for Indian Inn during an 8-3 home win over Victory Fireballs.

Heggie's teammate Mark Hatherley added his side's only maximum whilst three of the four 180s went to one man from the defeated team.

Neal Walters showed scoring prowess by adding that trio of aforementioned maximums to a ten ton tally, with one of the 180s coming in a 3-1 defeat to Heggie that contained a 16 darter for the former.

Paul Palmer's twelve tons wasn't matched by any of the duodectet of competitors on display and that led Kings Arms to a 7-4 win over St Levans.

Harry MacGregor was the only recipient of a '180' call during the match for either side, which came in a 3-0 loss to Paul Hendy who had his finishing boots on earlier in the tie.

Hendy checked a leg at the first time asking from 127 to take the best finish overall whilst three men produced legs within five visits during the singles phase.

Palmer's 14 darter came in a 3-2 loss to Tex Pearce whilst Palmer's teammate Dave Johns added a 15 dart leg during his 3-0 victory.

Mike Pearce made the score line respectable when last on for the visitors with a 3-1 success that also contained a leg in 15 darts.

Tony Tasker fired Victory A to an 11-0 success over Duchy with twelve ton plusses and also produced magic at the business end of his 3-1 individual triumph.

Tasker's 17 darter helped towards that victory and gave him the least number of darts honours whilst teammate Kelvin Rowe fired a 110 checkout for the best finish of the match, which came in a 3-0 singles win.

Jack McMinn's eleven ton personal haul gave Bluebird the platform to take an 8-3 victory from their trip to Cherry Tree D.

McMinn's stablemate Keith Lemon fired a 116 checkout in the match whilst Jacob Bentham performed heroics all night for the defeated team when matching McMinn's eleven ton tally.

Bentham's teammate Kevin Lofthouse showed his scoring prowess with the only three treble visit of the contest, which came in a 3-2 individual triumph.

Current champions and leaders Fawn B enjoyed their derby day by only dropping three legs during a 10-1 win over Fawn A.

Fred Goldsmith led the way in the scoring stakes with eleven tons for the favourites for another league title whilst two of Goldsmith's teammates shared a duo of maximums equally between them.

John Mann added to Simon Washington's 180 with one of his own whilst Washington's 112 checkout couldn't be beaten by any of the other twenty-six checkouts in the match.

Lee Agar's 16 darter in his 3-0 individual win was matched by teammate Andy Bates who also added a leg in 17 to his own 3-0 win to round off a successful night for the victors.

The final nail looks to have been put into Cherry Tree B's stuttering title challenge in spite of a 7-4 win at Bar Mez which saw Mark Shears add one of the seven 180s to his own ten ton tally.

Teammate Paul Gavican fired two maximums whilst Phil Hoyle made it four three treble visits for the visitors from Pennycross.

Mike Bulmer joined Paul Tackle and Tom Full in hearing a '180' call after throwing for the defeated team whilst four main highlights lit up the finishing section of legs.

Scott Wapshott showed his prowess with a 124 combination out shot before Shears added an 18 darter on his way to a 3-0 win.

Gavican added a leg in 14 during a 3-0 win, and that was replicated by Full during his 3-1 triumph over Wapshott that made the score line respectable for the Torpoint side.

Kieran Harris took all of the plaudits for Victory Hammers in an 8-3 win over Beacon Park with his 97 checkout added to by the only 180 of the matchup.

The only moment of magic between Tradesmans and Ivybridge CC came in the form of Mitchell Grimshaw's 93 out shot that came in a 9-2 win for the Stonehouse team.
