Hay-Maker Form Bests Devonport Rivals

Antony Hayman produced something like his best as the Plymouth City Super League season closed with a a 7-4 win for King Billy over Steampacket.

Hayman's fourteen three figure scores was unbeaten by all on display in the match whilst George Beckett's riposte for the opposition was eleven tons.

Hayman's good form continued well into the individual phase as a 101 checkout, his team's only maximum, and legs of 15 and 14 darts put him in good stead for a 3-0 triumph.

Beckett's total included a 152 checkout that was the highest of the final week of games with Beckett also adding legs of 15 and 16 darts in a 3-2 win.

Paul Goundry was Beckett's latest victim, but Goundry did put up some resistance with a leg in 18 darts during the 3-2 defeat while Paul Palmer also fell victim to the same score despite reaching ten tons.

Palmer's ton total was accented in that defeat to Marc Webber by a 106 checkout; Webber nailing a maximum on his way to the win by the odd leg in five.

That Palmer checkout had to settle for third best of the contest as Neal Hotchkiss fired a 111 checkout in the only leg he won during a 3-1 defeat.

Fourteen ton plusses from Mick Bingham included two maximums and a 100 checkout but wasn't enough to arrest Victoria's slide to a 7-4 defeat at the hands of Bluebird B.

Dale Halford's 93 single visit checkout and a Jamie Roberts 180 were the moments of magic in the contest for the triumphant visitors.

Colebrook signed off their successful campaign with a fifth placed finish but succumbed to the relentless champions Octagon by a 9-2 score line.

The main resistance to the imperious Stonehouse side came from Darren Smith who put thirteen three figure scores onto the score sheet.

Smith's total saw the cherry on top of it coming in the form of a 111 checkout that wasn't bettered by any of the twelve on display.

Nathan Langdon supported Smith well all night as he reached ten tons overall whilst Smith's ton total was matched by John Mann for the victors.

Fred Goldsmith was the next highest scoring player with ten tons overall whilst Lee Hellings provided the only maximum between two top sides.

The best leg of 1001 in the match came from the trio of Goldsmith, Hellings and teammate Neil White (26.34) who put together a 38 dart trebles.

The individual phase was littered with short legs; the first of which came from Dave Hollow in a 3-2 defeat in which he heard game shot called after just 16 darts.

Hellings 3-0 win saw him pick up a leg in 17 whilst Mann took a 3-1 win thanks in part to legs that were finished in 16 and 14 darts.

Wayne Town signed off his season with twelve tons during an 8-3 win for Clifton over Duchy A who finish second bottom of the pile.

The 180s in the match were shared as Jason Bruce and Niall McGarvey both heard 180 called whilst Andy Pengelly's 92 checkout in a 3-1 win was the best mustered between the sides.

Simon Kelly produced eleven tons but still found himself on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat as Saltram fell to Kings Arms B.

Kelly joined teammate Dave Algar in hitting a maximum before Martyn Down stepped up at 5-5 to secure a 3-1 win for himself and the spoils for the away side.

The Fawn derby match ended with the A team getting the better of their B team stablemates in a tie that saw Dave Roberts put eleven tons onto the scoreboard.

Simon Stevenson was also prominent with ten tons including the only maximum whilst Stevenson's 13 darter in a 3-0 win was the leg that bettered one in 16 from Roberts during his 3-1 triumph.

Ten tons from Quinton Taylor wasn't enough to see Victory B over the line as the Honicknowle side were downed by Raffles.

Mark Williams 114 checkout was the best of the match whilst Taylor's 180 was one of four in the match as Danny Bull, James Ewing and Peter Cornish all contributed for the visitors from Mutley.

An 8-3 win for Victory A at Cherry Tree saw Scott Cook reach ten tons whilst Cook added one of three maximums that the team hit in the success.

Mark Shears and Paul Gavican were the others involved in producing maximums whilst Dave Lee's 76 checkout was the best of any twenty-four finishes in the match.

The only noteworthy contributions in Ker St's 7-4 win at Kings Arms A came from Ian Heggie's 180 and an 84 checkout from teammate Pete Lamerton.

St Levans got over the line by a score of 6-5 in their trip to Hyde Park whilst Bluebird A received a walkover 11-0 win from Victory B.

The league's AGM will take place on 17th September at St Levans from 12pm sharp; both new and old teams will need to send representatives if they wish to take part next season.

The annual Players Championship Finals is scheduled at the Victory at 8pm, which will see the best player from each team do battle for the prestigious title.
