Fred The Gold Member For Champs

Fred Goldsmith's (25.47) fine display in a dominant 9-2 Octagon Plymouth City Super League Division A win over King Billy was one of a number of great displays from the runaway leaders in the four week old season.

Goldsmith teamed with John Mann and Alfie Ford (31.28) put away 1001 points in just 32 darts in a match that started how it meant to go on.

Lee Hellings, Neil White and Paul Palmer (25.67) ploughed home a 39 darter over the 1001 distance before Hellings and Ford paired for an 18 dart 601 leg in the doubles.

However, the visitors ended the team games just one adrift at 3-2 to give them some hope of potentially claiming the spoils in the match after an ominous start.

3-2 very quickly became 4-2 as Goldsmith was a 3-0 winner with the help of a 94 checkout whilst Hellings netted 15 and 16 dart legs in another 3-0 win and ended his night on fourteen tons.

Ford made the win safe with another 3-0 success that rounded off a ten ton personal tally before Palmer added two of the five maximums in the game to go alongside a 16 dart leg in his 3-1 triumph.

Mann made it 8-2 with ten of his fifteen scores of a ton or more coming in a 3-2 success over Paddy Archibald who himself fired a leg in 17.

Mann's leg in 16 and 180 proved to be crucial in the destination of the double-yew, which came before White's 3-0 triumph that was accented by his second maximum of the night and a fourth leg in 16 for the team.

Simon Stevenson was Cornwall Gate's hero in more ways than one with his fifteen ton total contributing heavily to a hard fought 6-5 win over Cherry Tree C.

Stevenson was one of three 180 hitters well supported in the win by Andy Malinowski who reached fourteen tons overall.

Steve Rice ended his night as stand in for Shaun Dring with eleven tons whilst Matt Vosper was a ten ton hitter in a spell that included a 106 checkout.

After taking the lion's share of the five team games, Frankie Stout extended the Pennycross side's lead with his team's only 180 the highlight of a 3-0 win.

That sparked the Division B champions into life as they recovered to lead 5-4 in a spell that saw Stout's teammate Dave Hollow add a 16 dart leg in a 3-2 defeat.

Nathan Langdon forced a decider that was put to bed by Stevenson in a 3-1 success that contained a 16 darter in his third and final leg of the match.

Cherry Tree A faired slightly better than their stablemates with an 8-3 win at Steampacket which saw both Dave Lee and Nick Miller reach eleven tons for their night.

Four mid range checkouts lit up the contest with Luke Johnson's 76 for the defeated side beaten by Steve Mills who bagged an 83 for the third best.

Melvyn German's 94 was narrowly bettered by James Hughes who heard 'game shot' called at the first time of asking from 98.

Johnson was a 3-1 winner over Hughes thanks in part to a 15 dart leg whilst Johnson joined teammate Kayleigh Adams in achieving the only two 180s.

Danny Bull's eleven ton haul was accented by the only 180 of the game, but it wasn't enough to arrest Indian Inn A's slide to a 7-4 defeat against Kings Arms B.

Simon Kelly was the leader of the pack for the away side with ten tons and his 3-1 singles win saw him check a leg in 17 darts.

That win was over Harry Bull who netted a 98 checkout that was only combination to better Kelly's teammate Paul Carpenter who notched a 76 kill.

A 180 for each side were the top scores in Bluebird A's 9-2 win over Ker St with Glenn Halford joining Paul Tackle in adding a three treble visit.

Halford also added the least number of darts accolade to his list of honours with a 17 dart leg of 501 coming in a 3-1 triumph.

Tackle's teammate Fred Lamerton fired a 94 combination out to outgun an 80 by Halford's stablemate Dale Halford for the highest checkout of the contest.

Clifton got their season up and running with a 6-5 win over Bluebird B that contained three maximums as Niall McGarvey and Cory Jonas fired for the victors to join Jon Parsons effort for the defeated side.
