Fred Strikes Gold In Leaders Win
Fred Goldsmith's eleven ton plus haul in Octagon's 10-1 win over Colebrook was accented by a 180 and the top checkout of the week across all Plymouth City Super League fixtures; a 124 three dart combination.
Despite that performance, Goldsmith wasn't the top scorer for the leaders as John Mann produced twelve tons overall for the team.
The talismanic figure also scored a 180 in a 3-0 singles win that was won with a trio of 16 dart legs; producing a single dart average of 31.31.
That was the only individual average that bettered Goldsmith's (28.36) 3-0 win, which was helped along by legs of 18, 17 and 18 darts.
Other moments of magic in the singles phase came in the form of a 15 darter for Alfie Ford in a 3-2 defeat and a leg in 17 for Neil White in his 3-0 triumph.
Lee Hellings was also prominent for the champions elect as he nailed eleven ton plusses and teamed with Goldsmith and White (27.05) to produce a 1001 trebles leg in just 37.
That leg however was blown away by a magnificent 31 dart 1001 doubles from Mann and teammate Matthews, which topped all other averages on the night; a 32.29 per dart display.
Antony Hayman's fourteen ton haul led King Billy to a 9-2 win over Steampacket; a victory that also saw Mark Yeoman throw his team's only maximum of the match.
Hayman's singles saw him checkout 104 in a single visit in a 3-1 win that was won with two 18 darters and a leg in 15.
Hayman's defeated opponent Neal Hotchkiss had earlier provided the highest checkout of the match; a 120 finish that bettered Hayman's effort in a doubles win for Hotchkiss and teammate George Beckett.
Despite ending the wrong side of a heavy defeat, Beckett was once again influential in the match with twelve ton plusses overall and claimed his team's other point of the evening in the individual phase of play.
The Fawn derby match between A and B was dominated by Simon Stevenson who threw twelve tons in a 7-4 win for his A team.
Stevenson was also one of three players to hit a maximum with Dave Roberts and Dan Bunney also achieving that particular feat.
Roberts threw his 180 in a 3-1 singles win that also saw him check the highest finish of the match with a smooth 112 kill.
James Ewing's sparkling form continued as he threw eleven ton plusses in Raffles' 9-2 win over Victory C that saw three maximums.
Danny Bull fired the first of the match in a doubles win with Ewing (29.44) that was put away in just 34 darts over the 1001 distance.
Eddie Bull added a second for his team in a 3-0 singles win whilst Adam Truscott fired the Honicknowle team's only noteworthy contribution with the third effort of the match.
Ewing's individual game was the best of the evening with a pair of 18 darters helping him dismantle his opponent by a 3-1 score line, whilst his 78 checkout was the best of the checkouts.
A rejuvenated Mark Hopkins is enjoying something like his best form once again as his eleven ton haul helped St Levans get the better of Hyde Park 7-4.
Tex Pearce was another main protagonist in this matchup as he supported Hopkins well with ten three figure scores of his own.
Hopkins also claimed the match's high checkout honours with a 92 that wasn't bettered by any of the twelve in action whilst the best of Hyde Park's efforts came from a 17 darter for Ben Welsh in a 3-2 defeat to Hopkins.
Andy Malinowski showed his undoubted class with ten tons in a 7-4 win for Kings Arms B at home to Saltram with teammate Rob Oak contributing a decent 88 single visit checkout.
Mark Lyons was the only 180 hitter of the match as he fired the sole effort in a fine individual success; one of just two his defeated team managed on the night.
Scott Cook and Matt Chegwin's ten ton plusses each helped Victory A extend their gap to third place in second to nine after a 10-1 win over Cherry Tree.
Chegwin put one of four maximums onto the scoreboard with his effort joining Mark Shears brace and Paul Gavican's 180.
The best games of the evening came from the two top scorers with Chegwin's leg in 16 in a 3-1 win only usurped by a 13 darter from Cook in a win by a 3-0 score line.
Bluebird A got the better of Victory B by a score of 7-4 with Lee Roberts ten ton plusses and a Glenn Austin 100 outshot contributing heavily to the win.
Nigel Bassett's 17 darter in a 3-1 singles win was the only moment of magic for the Bluebird B as they won 8-3 at home to Victoria.
The Plymstock outfit had both Seth Thompson and Mick Bingham in good form with a 180 and a checkout of 80 respectively.
Wayne Davis' 74 outshot was the most eye-catching event of a 7-4 win for Clifton over Duchy A whilst Ian Heggie's 180 lit up a close fought tie between Ker St and Kings Arms A.
From the word go, no team ever led by more than a single leg so it was fitting the game came down to the final leg of the match; Pete Down winning the thriller 3-2 with a 78 checkout to give his Oreston side a 6-5 success.
