Darts Simple For Simon
Simon Stevenson's thirteen ton haul wasn't bettered by any player in game week 26 of the Plymouth City Super League; a haul that led the Fawn A to an 8-3 win over Kings Arms A.
Stevenson was well supported by Mark Hempsall who helped himself to eleven tons, including the highest checkout of the match; a 104 single visit kill.
Stevenson was one of three maximum hitters in the match with teammate Dan Bunney adding a second for his team, and Pete Dunbar providing the other in a 3-1 defeat to Stevenson.
Statistically the league's best player, George Beckett, also threw thirteen tons but still found himself on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat as Steampacket were downed at home by Victoria.
Beckett added two of the four maximums in the match with the others provided by Steve Williams and Mick Bingham for the victors.
One of the five points scored for the defeated Devonport team was put away with a fabulous 108 checkout by Neal Hotchkiss.
John Mann led the charge as the runaway champions elect, Octagon, made light work of second placed Victory A in an 8-3 win that saw Mann put twelve three figure scores onto the board.
Mann was joined by teammates Alfie Ford and Dave Matthews (34.52) in a 29 dart 1001 win during the first rubber of the match that set the tone for another onslaught by the title favourites.
In that tie, Mattthews threw the first of seven maximums in the match, which was one of two statistics that the Honicknowle side got the better of the leaders in.
Five of the aforementioned 180s were claimed by Victory players with Danny Allen, Matt Chegwin, Scott Cook and a brace from Mark Shears, with Ford providing the one more for the victors.
The high finishing was the other area where the second placed team excelled as Paul Gavican's 105 beat Neil White's 100 checkout in a 3-1 win for the latter.
Lee Hellings and Fred Goldsmith were both heavy contributors to the win as they both nailed ten tons to the board, with Cook matching that total for the opposition.
There was also a number of impressive individual legs with Matthews and Hellings both adding a leg in 17 during their respective matchups.
However, the last laugh went to Mann (26.41) as his 3-1 win was littered with legs of 18 and 15 darts; a win that contributes to a remarkable record of 9.75 points from 11 on offer per game in 24 starts this season so far.
Tex Pearce helped himself to eleven tons, including the game's only maximum, as St Levans bested Bluebird A by a 7-4 score line.
Pearce (27.83) won his individuals 3-0 with the help of a 14 darter that was the only leg to better one in 17 from Glenn Austin during his 3-1 success for the Compton side.
Antony Hayman helped King Billy keep the pressure up on Victory A in the second and third place battle with ten tons that contributed to an 8-3 success over Saltram.
Hayman added the first of two team maximums in the match and paired with Paul Goundry (32.29) to put together an impressive 31 dart 1001 doubles leg.
However, that magnificent achievement was somewhat overshadowed by a moment of brilliance from Mark Yeoman who checked out 160 at the first time of asking in the previous leg.
The remarkable standard continued long into the individual phase as Reg Matthews picked up a 3-1 success; one of two wins for his team in the singles with the help of a leg in 15.
Teammate Warren Gordon threw a crucial 14 darter to take a 3-2 triumph over Paul Palmer who bagged a 105 three dart combination out shot in one of the two he won.
Hayman and Goundry returned to the board in the final two ties of the match to both round off 3-0 success with legs in 18 darts.
Goundry's win was slightly more notable as he claimed the game's second and final maximum during his particular triumph.
Victory B got the better of Colebrook 7-4 with Lewis Dare's performance the best on offer from the twelve competitors.
Dare added ten tons to the scoreboard, including one of two maximums for his team, and made light work of a more than worthy adversary, Dave Hollow, in the singles.
The 3-0 win for Dare (26.37) was accented by legs in 18 and 17 darts whilst Steve Hiscox also found himself an 18 darter in a 3-2 reversal.
Other notable moments came from Sean Burkitt and Paul Hoare who threw a maximum and a 120 checkout respectively in the match.
Ten tons from Cory Jonas wasn't enough to help Clifton get over the line as they fell to Cherry Tree 7-4; a result made more remarkable as the Greenbank side had taken a 4-1 lead before capitulating.
There was a 180 a piece in the thrilling encounter with Dan Jewell and Steve Mills adding an effort each for the teams.
2022's Champion of Champions Runner-Up Harry Bull has returned to something like his best form with a ten ton individual total, which saw Raffles to a 6-5 win over Hyde Park.
Bull added the only 180 of the match and a leg in 18 darts during a 3-1 singles win whilst teammate James Ewing added a checkout of 99 to claim the highest of the match.
As the score line suggests, the Peverell side played their part with a lot of credit going to Ben Welsh who also reached ten tons for his night's work.
Both Paul Carpenter and Roger Backway performed well for Kings B as they inflicted a 9-2 defeated on their visitors from Greenbank, Fawn B.
The duo both hit a leg in 18 darts during 3-0 wins with Backway (26.84) also adding another in 16 darts for the best of the contest.
A 100 checkout from Mark Sargeant contributed to one of the two points taken back to the city centre by the Fawn team in a 3-2 individual win.
Jamie Roberts and Jack Heath played out an entertaining individual matchup in Bluebird B's 9-2 win over Duchy A.
Roberts won the tie 3-1 with the help of a 180 and a leg in 17 with Heath's solitary leg coming from a 98 combination out, which was only bettered in the match by Tony Pike's 100 kill.
Roger Bailey's 70 checkout was the only noteworthy contribution from either side in a 10-1 win for Ker St over Duchy B.
