Darren's Heroics Come In Classic Collis-tion
Darren Collis netted fifteen scores of a ton or more but still found himself on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat in the Monday Premier League as Victory were downed by King Billy.
Collis was supported well in the scoring phase by teammates Scott Lawrey and Tony Tasker who heard scores of a ton or more called fourteen and twelve times each.
After the team games were shared 3-2 in the favour of the Devonport side, Lawrey (26.83) levelled with a 3-0 win that came with the help of a leg in 17.
Collis and opponent Paul Gavican both added to Liam Taylor's 180 earlier in the contest in a 3-2 win for Collis that saw his power scoring finally win out.
Paul Goundry steadied the ship for the home side with a 3-1 win that came with the help of a 17 darter to make it 4-4.
Goundry's opponent Tony Tasker added a 120 checkout in the only leg he won that was put away in just 18 darts.
After seeing his side fall behind for the final time, Andrew Cook (28.90) produced his very best to give his brother a shot at winning the game with legs in 17, 18 and 17 darts accenting a 3-0 win.
And Scott Cook didn't falter once under the immense pressure with a 3-0 triumph to eventually give his team the triumph over their main rivals for the runner-up spot in the league.
Simon Washington (29.47) was the undoubted star for runaway leaders Tradesmans with a fine 3-0 singles success that came in a 10-1 win over Bluebird A.
Washington added legs in 18, 17 and 16 darts in that success and fired three maximums in that breath-taking individual display.
Two more maximums rained down from the home side as Alec Turner and Scott Wapshott both fired to make it a quintet of three treble visits.
Washington also grabbed the headlines at the business end of legs with a 124 checkout that narrowly bettered a 101 from teammate Jaden Whitting.
Lee Agar was the most consistent competitor for the Stonehouse outfit with eleven scores of a ton or more across the whole game.
Agar teamed with Fred Goldsmith to bag a 601 doubles leg in just 18 darts before the singles phase was lit up by multiple players.
Goldsmith started the fireworks with a 15 dart leg during his 3-0 singles success before Washington cast his significant silhouette over proceedings.
Wapshott added legs in 16 and 17 darts in another 3-0 win before the display was rounded off by Turner with a leg in 17 his best during a fifth straight 3-0 triumph.
Jayden Dodd was at his brilliant best for Octagon B to lead them to a 6-5 win over Cherry Tree A with fifteen scores of a ton or more.
Dodd's (26.37) tally was completed with a fine 3-0 singles win whilst he was supported by Chris Edgecombe and Dave Wyatt who both nailed ten tons each.
Mike Whatley was bang at it for the defeated team when matching Dodd's ton total of fifteen whilst Paul Freeman added ten scores of a ton or more.
The hero of the hour for the away team ended up being Dave Pethick who held his nerve to claim a 3-1 singles win with the scores tied at 5-5 going into the final singles rubber.
A truly remarkable standard was achieved between Octagon A and Cherry Tree B during a 6-5 victory for the latter that was their first of the season.
At the heart of all that was good in the game was Paul Hoare who added twelve tons, including a maximum, to lead his team to a last leg shootout win during a 3-2 singles success over Lee Hellings.
Hellings himself added two 18 darters in that topsy-turvy affair and also achieved a twelve ton tally of his own to show for his evening's work.
Five ton plus checkouts were fired by the talented duodectet with the best coming from the arm of Hoare's teammate Marc Webber who heard 'game shot' called at the first time asking from 144.
A 140 from Paul Palmer added to his maximum in the match whilst Alfie Ford was also a 180 hitter to go alongside checkouts of 100 and 103.
Ford ended his night with a 3-1 singles success that contained a 12 dart leg and also finished on twelve tons overall.
Ford's stablemate Darren Smith added a 100 checkout of his own to make up the quintet of astonishing checkouts and also helped himself to a fine 17 darter in a 3-1 triumph.
Palmer's mammoth combination out and 180 both came in a 3-1 individual triumph of his own that also saw legs put away in 15 and 16 darts.
Danny Bull fired a twelve ton plus haul but still managed to find himself on the wrong end of a 9-2 win as Indian Inn were downed at Legends Lounge.
Bull's 3-2 singles win saw a crucial 18 darter and he was flanked by Harry Bull with ten tons whilst the main body of the fireworks for the victors' came from the arm of Sean Taylor.
Taylor netted a 101 checkout and a 180 on his way to eleven three figure visits whilst James Nicholls and Del Bryce also heard '180' called after throwing.
Taylor's checkout was somewhat overshadowed by a 151 from Bryce whose three darter was both the best of the win and across all fixtures played in the game week.
Zak Smith's ten scores of a ton or more might've included a maximum and checkouts of 114 and 111, but that effort still couldn't see Colebrook over the line as Bluebird B claimed a 6-5 win.
Glenn Halford netted a 180 for the successful home side before Nick Perring gave his team the win with a 3-0 win coming in the final singles rubber.
