Brothers Pearce Hammers Hopes Of Victory
The formidable Pearce brothers were in top form for the St Levans who edged Victory Hammers 6-5 in their visit to Honicknowle in the Steve Chapman 501 League.
Most prominent of the aforementioned duo was Tex Pearce who threw sixteen ton plusses as well as a 17 darter in a 3-1 singles win that claimed the all important sixth point for his team on the night.
Mike Pearce was slightly less prolific in the scoring stakes with eleven tons but was eminently more clinical at the business end of the affair as he checked 15 and 17 dart legs in a 3-0 individual success.
Two of Devon's very best female players put the only maximums onto the scoreboard as Hayley Brant's effort for the victors was replied to by Cleo Trelease for the defeated side.
Trelease's teammate James King also showed a moment of class in the match with a 90 checkout, which was the highest of the match overall.
Scott Lawrey top scored for Victory A in their 11-0 win over bottom side Firkin Doghouse as they guaranteed themselves at least a third place finish in the league and could still pip their stablemates, Victory C, to second.
Paul Gavican was the biggest ton hitter with twelve scores of three figures for Victory C as they closed the gap to the Fawn B at the top to just two points; demolishing a Fawn A side littered with talent 11-0.
Gavican wasn't the only player on his team to amass double figures in ton plusses as Billy Evans reached ten tons himself.
Danny Allen is now the league's top 180 scorer with no fewer than 21 in 25 starts; the three he nailed during this particular matchup putting him one clear of Fawn B's John Mann.
Allen's trio were not the only maximums in the match as Mike Nancholas added his team's only effort of what turned out to unfortunately be a difficult night for the Greenbank side.
In the final individual rubber of the night, Jason Pinkerton claimed the week's highest checkout with a fine 121 checkout, which turned out to be crucial in a 3-2 triumph.
Fawn B's game against Victory D was postponed but this result now means they only need ten points from twenty two on offer from their final two league games to pip Victory C and claim the league title.
Three 180s accented an 8-3 win for King Billy over Octagon as Scott Wapshott's brace was added to by teammate Andrew Cook who threw a sole maximum of his own.
That pair ticked Wapshott's personal ton tally over to the twelve mark whilst Scott Cook checked the best finish of the match with a fine 100 kill.
Wapshott and Andrew Cook were just as ruthless at the end of the legs as they were during the scoring phase of play with Wapshott's 18 darter during his 3-1 win only bettered by Cook's leg in 14 in a 3-0 success.
Reg Matthews undoubted class was indisputable for all to see in Kings Arms 10-1 win over Duchy of Cornwall as the veteran checked a 114 three dart combination outshot for the biggest of the contest.
That bettered a 107 from Duchy's Rob Wills whilst was fired in riposte to Matthews' effort during a hotly contested 3-2 win for the latter in the singles phase of play.
Matthews' teammate Dave Johns showed two moments of brilliance in the match; putting his name in the 180 column during a trebles win before returning in the singles to bag himself a 17 darter in his 3-0 individual win.
A close run contest where lead changed hands three times saw Bar Mez eventually run out 6-5 winners over Indian Inn with Simon White's 80 checkout for the winners the only noteworthy contribution from both teams.
