Bates Scores Well, But Flash Is Finishing Master
Andy Bates added sixteen tons to the scoreboard during Fawn B's 8-3 success over Indian Inn but still fell in the individual phase to an inspired Mark Hatherley in the Steve Chapman 501 League.
Hatherley notched fourteen ton plusses of his own with Bates 16 darter the only leg he won during the 3-1 Hatherley win that saw the man they call 'Flash' check a leg in 18 darts.
Hatherley's 110 checkout in the third leg put him 2-1 up before running out the only singles winner for the Stoke village team.
Bates' teammates well supported his scoring spree as John Mann chalked up the only maximum of the match on his way to twelve ton plusses.
Lee Agar was a fourth player of the twelve on display to reach double figures with ten tons and there was a couple of explosive legs from Agar's teammates.
Dave Matthews 3-0 singles success was accented by a leg in 18 whilst the shortest leg of the match was thrown by Jaden Whitting with a 14 darter in his win by the same score line.
Mann was equally prominent in the singles phase with legs of 18 and 15 darts during another 3-0 win for the league leaders who hold a four point advantage.
Fifteen tons from Scott Cook wasn't enough to halt King Billy's slip to an 8-3 defeat to Victory C in a match that saw Cook hit one of five maximums overall between the two sides.
The title chasing side from Honicknowle opened up a 3-0 lead in the match with Paul Gavican and Danny Allen (33.39) won their 601 doubles 2-0 with legs in just 16 and 20 darts.
The precession of quality arrows didn't subside there as Scott Wapshott reached ten tons and hit a 16 darter during a 3-1 individual defeat to Paul Gavican.
Allen also saw his total of three figure scores reach ten during his individual game as he hit a second 16 dart leg of the match in a 3-2 defeat to Scott Cook.
Allen threw a maximum in the match but a crucial 14 darter from Cook saw him over the line in this clash between two of Plymouth's darting heavyweights.
A second matchup of the individual phase that was decided by a single leg saw both Billy Evans and opponent Mark Yeoman hit a maximum.
Evans survived legs of 18 and 17 darts from Yeoman to eventually get over the line with a 109 checkout to round off a ten ton personal haul and a 3-2 win.
Mark Shears and Andrew Cook then faced off as the players rounded off hauls of thirteen and twelve tons respectively during another top contest in which Shears chalked up the fifth and final maximum.
Cook got the better of his more senior adversary with a leg in 14 helping towards a 3-1 success before Tom James rounded off the 8-3 win with a 3-2 success that was helped along by a leg in 17.
Paddy Archibald lit up Victory A's 6-5 success with ten tons in a visit to Kings Arms, which also saw Quinton Taylor bag a brace of maximums.
Kelvin Rowe added a 180 of his own whilst Scott Lawrey's 138 checkout helped him to a 3-1 individual triumph.
The contest reached a crescendo with the scores locked at 5-5 and 2-2 in the final matched between Archibald and Warren Gordon.
And it was Archibald who held his nerve to give the visitors a good away win against the brilliant Oreston outfit who have ruffled feathers in the league all season with top performances.
Lee Rodmell added ten tons, including a 180, to the scoreboard but still ended up on the wrong side of a 6-5 defeat as Bar Mez were downed by Fawn A.
Rodmell's teammate Paul Tackle added a second 180 for the Cornwall based site in a topsy-turvy affair which came down to the last rubber of the match.
Stuart Snape's 103 checkout wasn't enough however as Dave Clemson got the better of his opponent to give the Greenbank side the victory.
Tex Pearce produced ten tons during the St Levans 10-1 success over Duchy Of Cornwall; a match that saw Tex and brother Mike Pearce hit 18 and 17 darters in their singles games that were both won 3-0.
A 10-1 win for Octagon over Firkin Doghouse produced few magical moments with Jayden Dodd's maximum being one of only two notable achievements.
Dodd also paired with Tony Perkin (31.63) in the doubles to take a 601 leg in 19 darts during their 2-0 success.
A Victory derby match between Victory Hammers and Victory D was won on the last game 6-5 by the designated away team for the evening; the D side.
James King produced 106 checkout to help the Hammers take the game to a 5-5 tie before Kay Whiting-O'Brien won the final singles game 3-0 to give her team a fifth success of the season.
