Bassett Goes Mike The Clappers
Mike Bassett fired sixteen three figure scores but still found himself on the wrong end of a 7-4 defeat as Fawn A were downed by Octagon in the Steve Chapman 501 League.
Bassett was one of two players to hit a maximum in the match as Dave Pethick fired the victors only three treble effort.
Bassett paired with Mark Sargeant to put together a 601 leg in 21 darts in the doubles, a leg that was put to bed with a 106 checkout by the latter.
Alfie Ford may have ended on the wrong side of a narrow 3-2 defeat to Bassett, but he still had time to bag himself a 16 dart leg in the tie.
Dan Brazier lit up Cherry Tree's 6-5 win over Victory Hammers that came down to the deciding last possible leg of the match won by Brazier to give his team the spoils.
Brazier's ton tally was accented by a 112 checkout whilst the only noteworthy contribution by the defeated Honicknowle side came from a 17 dart leg in Ryan Harris' 3-0 triumph.
John Mann fired fifteen tons in the Fawn B's 8-3 win over Bar Mez, including one of the seven maximums thrown by the two players.
Three maximums where ploughed home by Jaden Whitting on his way to fourteen ton plusses whilst there was three 180 hitters amongst the visitors from Cornwall.
The man who Whitting beat in the singles 3-2, Paul Tackle, joined Tom Full and Lee Rodmell in achieving three treble visits.
Rodmell also added a 120 checkout that was best of the match, bettering Fred Goldsmith's 105 three dart combination outshot.
Mann's (31.98) 3-0 triumph was by some distance the best average in the match as the Cornwall marksman put together legs in 18, 17 and 12 darts.
Whitting's five leg win was sealed with a crucial 14 darter whilst teammate Goldsmith added legs in 18 and 16 in a 3-0 success of his own.
Despite the quality of it, Dave Matthews eleven tons and leg in 18 darts in his 3-0 win paled somewhat into insignificance due to the quality of his teammates' display.
Kings Arms won 7-4 in their visit to Indian Inn but it was Mark Hatherley who top scored in the match for the defeated team with fourteen ton plusses.
Dave Johns provided most of the heavy artillery for the victors as he ended the night on thirteen tons whilst teammate Paul Palmer played his supporting role to perfection with eleven three figure scores.
One of those Johns tons came in the form of a 120 checkout whilst Louis Yates was the only player to trouble the 180 column of the scoresheet with a solitary effort.
Palmer got one over on the Stoke team's highest scoring player as 3-2 despite Hatherley nailing a leg in 16 that was the best thrown over the 501 distance.
Lee Hellings fired a leg in 17 during his 3-0 win whilst Johns win by the odd leg in five came with the help of a single leg in 18 darts.
Tony Tasker scored an unbeaten thirteen ton plusses in a 10-1 win for Victory A at home to Ker St; a match that saw 180s called no fewer than four times.
Quinton Taylor netted a brace of maximums to join Paul Goundry and Paddy Archibald in achieving the feat whilst Goundry teamed with Taylor to take a 601 doubles leg in just 19 darts.
Mike Pearce hit thirteen tons but still found himself on the wrong end of an 8-3 defeat after the St Levans were bested by King Billy.
The main catalyst in the win was the power scoring from Antony Hayman who added a 123 checkout to ten other tons to give him an eleven three figure score haul.
The clinical checkouts gave the Devonport side a platform to claim a comfortable victory as Frankie Stout nailed a 98 finish whilst Kyle Burden checked two legs in 76 and 64 in single visits.
Burden went down to Pearce 3-2 thanks in part to a 16 darter from the latter that was only bettered by a leg in 13 by Andrew Cook in his 3-2 success over Harry MacGregor.
In a contest that saw seven of the eleven ties decided by a single leg, the pair that met in the final game of the night were the players to hear 180 called after throwing.
Billy Evans was the main protagonist in Victory C's 11-0 win over Duchy as he threw a 180 and two 17 darters in a 3-0 singles win.
