Austin Powers Bluebird To Top

Glenn Austin's fourteen ton haul in Bluebird A's 8-3 success over Indian Inn led his side to joint top of the Plymouth City Super League Division A early standings.

Austin capped his impressive night with a 3-2 win over Eddie Bull that was ushered over the finish line with a 16 dart leg for the former.

Bull himself performed admirably all evening with ten tons, but the top scorer honours went to teammate and grandson, Harry Bull, with eleven scores of a ton or more.

Bull Jnr was also bettered in the individual phase 3-2 with Lee Roberts coming out on top thanks in part to one of his two maximums in the match overall.

Dale Halford added a third 180 for his side whilst Leighton Wilson was the 180 hitter for the defeated side, and added an 88 checkout to his brilliant night's work.

That effort was only bettered by Jack McMinn for the home team who nailed 93 in a single visit to go alongside a ten ton personal tally in what was a top performance individually, and for the team.

Antony Hayman's star shone the brightest for King Billy in a dominant 10-1 win for the Devonport outfit, to which Hayman contributed thirteen ton plusses.

Hayman (32.68) blasted through his 3-0 individual win with two legs in 14 darts joined by an 18 darter that blew away his opponent.

A third leg in 14 was ploughed home by the visitors as Paul Goundry netted one on his way to another 3-0 win whilst two mid range checkouts were added in the matchup.

Mark Yeoman's 90 finish was the only combination to better a 71 kill by Andy Pengelly who added the only moment of magic for the home side.

A Cherry Tree derby match was dominated by the form of Frankie Stout who plundered thirteen tons in a 10-1 win for the C team against their A side who were the designated away side for the night.

Stout's tally was ticked over to that mark by a 118 checkout that was the only effort to better a 105 three darter from the very same arm.

Stout was supported well by teammate Dan Jewell who netted a ten ton personal tally whilst Stout also made the headlines in the least number of darts stakes.

A 3-2 Stout win was helped along by legs in 18 and 17 darts whilst Steve Mills was narrowly defeated 3-2 but still managed a leg in 17 of his own.

Simon Kelly bagged himself twelve tons but still found himself on the wrong end of a 7-4 defeat as Kings Arms B were defeated by two time champions Octagon.

Kelly's teammate Dave Johns was also in good nick with eleven tons but found Octagon's ten ton hitter John Mann in blistering form during the individual phase.

Mann (27.32) heard 'game shot' called after throwing 15 darts in one leg during an accomplished 3-0 win over Johns who added his team's only maximum to the scoreboard earlier in the contest.

Johns' 180 came in a 2-1 doubles win with teammate Martyn Down that saw one of the legs put away in 18 darts over the 601 format.

That leg wasn't the only heroics performed in the pairs phase of play as Mann teamed with Fred Goldsmith to bag a 22 darter over the same distance.

A team phase that also saw Johns fire a 72 checkout - that was only matched by Paul Palmer for the home side - gave the visitor's a 3-2 lead going into the individual phase.

However, the mark of all good champions is the way they recover in adverse situations and that started with an Alfie Ford 3-2 win, which left Ford on eleven tons overall.

Goldsmith then bagged a 3-1 win with an 18 darter his best before Lee Hellings ended his night on twelve tons and a 3-0 win.

Neil White secured another 3-1 win for his team and completed an eleven ton personal tally before Kelly made the score line deservedly respectable.

Kelly bagged a leg in 17 darts during his 3-1 triumph before Mann put the icing on a very good comeback from 2-0 and 3-2 down.

Indian B got their season started with a 10-1 win over Bluebird B that was dominated by the scoring of Dan Brazier and Mike Whatley who both netted ten tons.

Brazier and teammate Paul Gavican added a 19 darter over the 601 distance in a 2-0 doubles win that contained one of the two maximums in the game.

Scott Wapshott added the other whilst Gavican also took the plaudits in the 501 individual phase with a 3-0 win that contained a leg in 16.

Tom James was a 3-2 winner thanks in part to a 127 three dart combination out shot that took the best finish honours for both the match and game week across both sections of the league.

The only moment of magic that was contributed by the defeated visitors from Compton came from the arm of Vince Scallan who checked 84 in a single visit.

It was 'Ladies Night' during an 8-3 win for Steampacket in a Devonport derby versus Ker St with the victors' girls dominating both the scoring and finishing phase of play.

Mel Sharpe's 79 checkout that was only bettered by teammate Kayleigh Adams who heard putt away 86 in a single visit during her 3-0 individual triumph.

Sharpe was 3-2 winner thanks to one of the two maximums plundered by her team with Marc Webber firing the other three treble visit in the match.
