Wells hits top average in week of high-scoring victories
OF the eight matches played in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League, no fewer than five were won in double figures including a 10-1 victory for Brewery Tap away at Maritime Nutters.
Glyn Wells (30.06) (pictured) attained the week’s highest average when emerging a 3-0 winner in 14, 16 and 20 and was well supported by Maria O’Brien (23.48) who won in 24, 18 and 22 and top marksman Kieran Burns (100x13).
Unbeaten leaders Porters Patriots secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer when they hosted Maritime Musketeers with John Mann (29.47) once again leading from the front.
The fixture produced six maximums, three of which were recorded by Mann and he went on to take his singles in 16, 17 and 18.
Victory Inn B edged out Indian Inn 6-5 while Kings Arms returned from Fawn A with a 10-1 victory.
Fred Goldsmith (100x15) top scored for Fawn B as they edged out Torpoint Cons 6-5 while Darren Collis (100x15) caught the eye for Victory Inn A in their 11-0 drubbing of Cherry Tree.
Frankie Stout hit a brace of 180s in a 3-1 singles success but finished up on the wrong end of a 7-4 scoreline when Maritime Misfits were defeated by Porters Pretenders for whom Mark Shears (25.05) emerged a 3-0 winner in 23, 12 and 25.
King Billy took maximum points from their visit to The Clifton and had Steve Cottingham hitting the week’s highest finish of 117. Other notable checkouts were achieved by: Kelvin Rowe (110/100), Neil White (107), Kenny McCollum (107), Tony Teal (107), Fred Goldsmith (100), Andrew Waters (100).
