103 Competitors Up For The Cup!
Seventy-nine of the one hundred and three entered competitors will do battle on Sunday, 18th September with the dream of becoming this year's Champion of Champions.
Current champion, John Mann, who won the title in dramatic fashion in December 2021 with a marvellous top of the shop 170 checkout to win his second crown, starts off in the Preliminary Round at the Indian Inn.
On for a potential early collision course at the same venue with Octagon's Mann is Plymouth City Super League 2022 Players Champion Mark Gilbery of the Victory Inn.
After a stunning performance in the league phase of that particular competition, George Beckett will also be a dangerous opponent when representing the Steampacket on the same board.
In what looks to be a potential graveyard of champions, reigning Monday Premier League and P&D League individual champions, Harry Bull and Mark Hatherley, also make up part of the twenty-six player Indian Inn field.
The youngest player to ever enter the competition, 11 year old Rubie Archibald, begins her first ever tilt at the trophy alongside some great players at the Stoke village venue.
Joint record holding five time champion, Fawn's Simon Stevenson, starts his attempt at a sixth crown and immortality at his home pub alongside 1989 winner, Colin Maddocks.
Despite not yet returning to local league darts after the pandemic, Maddocks still supports the charity event and will be a potential banana skin for anyone should he find anything like his vintage best form.
Joining them is former Devon player, Kings Arms' Chrissie Kinnaird, who is one of five talented ladies in the draw with Cornwall's Jo-Anne Symons starting her bid for glory at King Billy with Victory Inn's Kerry Jenkins.
Attacking his second crown having won the famous old trophy back in 1996, the great Ralph Lancaster begins in the same venue with last year's runner-up, Danny Allen, making up another strong looking field.
The only former winner to be guaranteed a spot in the next round is 2018 Champion Neil White, who was one of twenty-five lucky recipients of byes.
Three time Ladies Champion, Jodie Hawton, will be hoping for similar success in the main event when she enters at the Last 64 stage having also received safe passage through to the next round thanks to a bye.
The charity competition that's in it's thirty-seventh year, is raising money for Mind this time around with all funds going towards locally based mental health causes.
The current total before a dart has even been thrown or a collection bucket been passed around a single venue, is a whopping £923.12.
The draw for each of the three venues will be done at 7pm with the thirteen best of 5, 501 games starting promptly afterwards.
Games will start with the players throwing the for bull in the first leg only; the winner of which will have the luxury of the throw in the first, third and crucially fifth leg where required.
The bust rule will apply throughout and the winners of this single game format Preliminary Round will move into the Last 64 stage played on Sunday, 16th October.
The Last 64 evening will see a more cut throat format of players needing to win through two games on the night to book themselves a place at the Last 16 Finals Night to be played at Victory Inn on 27th November.
